As some of you may know I have had  GSD's for over 40 years.but I never had one that will bury his bones, chix wings or big marrow bones.
Is it in his breeding ? Dose he feel under pressure with a older dog around ?
He is 14 months old on Monday.
He is also the boss of the older (9 years) boy.He will take balls & bones off of him so really shows no fear.
But given half a chance will take any bone up the garden under the fir trees & dig a hole & bury it !!!!
How can I stop him.
OH is saying that he could get worm's or worse,as well as not being to happy about his garden being dug up ,lol.
Have any of you had the same problem .
He is not a big eater, when he has his tripe in the evening will take forever to eat it ,whilst other one inhales his !!

Aside from keeping him confined to a space while he has it, I'm not sure there is much you can do - it's a natural behaviour for some dogs.  My Opi does it, the only one of the 10 dogs I've had who will - there's no insecurity or anything, she just likes to stash the odd one for later.  Won't do it every time either, and sometimes it is months later when a bone gets dug up!

My Jess used to bury bones regularly, someone pointed out on here that she was probably given too much other raw food,so might be saving her bones for a hungry moment!I do know now shes a more eager eater(having to watch her weight!),far fewer bones get buried, but how I agree, the lovely soily mess when they dig them up,lovely, isnt it!usually when youve just cleaned up or are expecting visitors.

Yes my gsd burys recreational bones sometimes for ages other times just for an hour or two then knaws away at them. Other dogs I have had dont bother. He still did it when we only had him so dont thinkit anything todo with pressure from having the others around.
yes very messy fortunately he always eats outside its Brooke who pinches them when he has finished who brings it in mess and all yuk !
