Can you explain a little more in the area of "socializing" with a rott pup and thank you for all the suggestions with the kids issue that I was having. Also any "seasoned" rott owners that know some training tid bits I would greatly appreciate it. One more thing I have some of my own ideas on the subject but would like outside advice on how to train a dog to stay in the boundaries of a yard. With alot of runners and walkers in my area, I know that they would appreciate the advice on how to stop a dog from visiting them on their daily excercize. Just a quick addition to my post. Please do not lambaste me and infer that I leave my pup alone in the yard. I don't have the dog yet and I was just curious about training them to know their boundaries to protect them and to protect us as homeowners. I left the question open on another board and was pretty much told off about it. I was curious more about the idea of an invisible fence and other dog owners feelings on invisible fencing for protection for the dog. I wouldn't leave her out alone but I want the security to know she will be safe when she is running our 2 acres. Thank you

You should only allow you dog unsupervised in an enclosed garden/yard. I suggest you fence of part of your grounds, the part adjasent to the back door for example.

No matter how good, having any dog loose around strangers could get you into trouble, as you could be accused of having a dog dangerously out of control. It is how the person perceives the threat, not whether there was one.

a very famous boxer bought in two rotts to guard his estate, !they terrified folk passing, as all that was between them was an electric fence!!!!-that was until the rotts worked out to creep real low underneath them , theyre a VERY CLEVER breed of dog-they shouldnt in my opinion be running free without supervision, i think like brainless they should be kept in their own space!
the breed has enough bad publicity and had attracted lots of back street breeders to it, please dont add fuel to the fire,!
oh and you can be fined now for your dog just frightening people!! they dont have to bite,

I just wanted to thank you both for your advice. You now sometimes when something is very obvious you can't even see it. I have a nice size enclosed porch off the back of my house and I can fence off part of the outside and she wouldn't even be bothered by the "attractions" out front at all. Most of the time she will be in the house with us. But sometimes even I wouldn't mind having my own space away from the inside crazy happenings in our house, and it would be perfect for her.
