I am looking to breed a very successful bitch with an equally sussesful stud. Stud is quite inexperienced having only sired 3 litters. He is missing every time. I do not want to use a different stud as this litter is very good news for my breed (toy).
I am considering artificial isemination but have heard reports that it can greatly increase the need for a c-section. I am torn, between the if natural is working its not meant to be and giving this method I am very new to a try.
I have a very experienced lady who scans willing to do the insemination if I decided.
Equally I am tempted to just wait until next season and try natural again.
Help appreciated

have heard reports that it can greatly increase the need for a c-sectionDon't know about that but the failure rate is much increased compared with natural impregnation.
Is the dog abroad or something? Can't remember if the KC allow AI with a dog thats easily accessible. Quite possibly wrong but I just had the idea that the dog had to be deceased or abroad.

Doesn't quite make sense - but has his sperm count been checked lately?
I think he's missing the spot, Ells-Bells!
No the stud isn't abroad or deceased but AI can be used but any pogency would have to be bred naturally.
Sorry yes he is missing the spot with this bitch, and sperm count was done 6months ago, it's the face the sperm is not getting to the bitch.

That's incorrect:
the KC website is clear;
The General Committee will not normally accept an application to register an AI litter if the donor male is alive and domiciled in the United Kingdom, with one exception namely, that Irish Wolfhounds of 8.5 years or older and domiciled in the UK may be used as donors in AI.

Even so, AI is still not allowed from a UK resident dog.
The recent rule change is allowing AI on a maiden bitch at all, as previously only proven bitches who'd already whelped a naturally-conceived litter could have an AI litter.
If you want to use this dog you can't use AI, it's as simple as that.
Ok thanks for advice, going to wait till next season and hope he's more experienced by then

If he has sired three litters then he is pretty experienced (in my breed some dogs don't even get to sire that often).
Are you sure your timing is right with the bitch. A lot of males will simply practise and test the water with a bitch that isn't ready and not go for it until she is well and truly ready.
This is most common for a male that is experienced which I would consider a dog who had sired 3 litters naturally to be.

I thought that the rulings had changed recently?

They have, they allow AI on maiden bitches, (previously a bitch had to have had a litter naturally)but then their daughters registrations are annotated and they must themselves have a natural litter.
The donor for AI must live overseas (and have sired naturally) or be deceased, except the older Wolfhound exception.
