My pup had her first season practically all of April and not it seems she is having a phantom, her boobs have all grown especially the back two pairs she has looked quite sad and been not herself, is there anything I can do?

As long as you are 100% sure she can't be pregnant then ignore the situation,don't be tempted to squeeze nipples as that will cause more milk to be produced rather than it drying up, don't show sympathy or she will drag it out and may even go as far as lactating and labour,take any objects away that she may be "mothering",soft toys etc., the longest my girl lasted was 7 weeks and then returned to normal literally overnight.

All bitches have phantoms to some degree as in the wild they would help to rear other pups by producing milk.

My remedy for phantoms is more exercise and slightly less food

Thankyou, no I don't touch her teats as they are swollen and I know it can encourage milk production, shes not mothering anything but just has sad episodes  and has put on a bit of  weight I can thankfully say definately not pregnant as was doubly extra vigilant she s only eight and a half months old

hi my mums dog had the same more than once  it made her severly depressed and my mums dog had to have a hysterectomy please get some advice from the vet

My bitch has got less miserable with each phantom, I keep her active and after 8 weeks she pops back to her usual self.
