I was Gobsmacked the amount today called to their cars, judging was even stopped in poodles. It's about time they just banned them from showing. It was so unbearable hot today I hope no dogs were taken sick :-(

The BIS ring was so hot and close my Junior bitch was dropping her tail and panting in Brace stakes, I ended up putting her under a stand pipe before going in the Junior stakes, the next class.  I still had to top and tail her.

Not had one so bad with heat before, but she is one on the go all the time, and very out of coat.  Her grandmother was fine.

I did stand them both in the water troughs which I found later.

It was actually cooler outside in the sun, as there was some breeze.

Disgusting. :-(

There were calls all day on Sunday about dogs being found left in cars disgusting as it was unbearable out of the car poor souls and this being a big dog show with supposedly knowledgable ppl!

When are the KC going to make a proper stand and ban the people who do this? No-one agrees that this is a correct thing to do and it is about time action was taken, words seem to mean nothing to these people.

Are people really leaving dogs in closed vehicles or are the societies just asking for no dogs in cars full stop regardless.

If it's the former then I'm disgusted that the message still isn't getting through.

I was at an agility show at the weekend in scorching temperatures, lots of dogs left in cars - all with boots open, windows open, reflective covers over the cars, and the dogs were lovely and cool. It's really not that difficult to keep the car temperature down!

on monday a tannoy message was put out three times for a transit van, to return to the van after the 2nd time of asking i would of just added and we are now proceeding to break the window to get into the van,this was at  bath showground
at some agility shows you have a ref number on your passes which you put in your window if you are needed the ref number can be brought up and your name can be found and you can be contacted, i have been to two agility shows last year where one warning about a car was given the 2nd warning was followed by we have now broken your window and removed your dogs this was followed by clapping around the rings.
when i am at a breed show i only take the dogs with me that i need to show i know this is not possible all the time, i think on schedules it needs to be clarified that no dogs what so ever should be left in cars if that what societies want, at agility shows, i have the windows open, reflective covers on the car, doors and boots open, freezer packs under the dogs, fans going on their cages and they are cool and safe if it can be done at agility why not at breed shows ?

Not very practical at Breed champ shows as the parking is often a long way from the actual show area.

Benching is provided for all entered dogs, so in theory there should never be a dog in any car, though many people bring unentered dogs and rig up vans etc with generators to power fans to keep them cool, but of course with people far from the cars these arrangements may fail or maybe not be obvious to the organisers, or some organisers may have a blanket ban as being the safest/practical option, and playing devils advocate here, people are flouting it, feeling they have made good arrangements for their dogs in the vehicles.

At the larger agility shows, the parking is no closer than at breed shows. It can take 10 minutes to walk back to the car from the rings to swap dogs. The dogs are probably cooler in the car with the boots open and reflective sheeting over it than they are in a hot tent. I've never left a dog in the car at champ shows as they're supposed to be on the benches but I do it regularly at agility shows - with appropriate arrangements for keeping them cool.

I'm happy to leave my dogs in the car at rally trials, boot up and shaded etc, with water. But I wouldn't feel happy leaving the car like that in the huge car parks they have at champ shows, or even at open show. I'd rather leave them at home. Ok we have a dog door so the dogs can get out for a wee if they need to, but if I didn't, I'd rather leave them shut in and risk a mess to clean up that evening than leave my dog in the car!

I don't think you can compare the parking at agility shows to that at champ breed shows.

I often compete at the large agility shows at Newbury showground  and leave my dogs in the car with boot open,reflective sheeting over crates,and a carnopy gazeebo over the car.

However there is no way that I would be happy to do that this weekend at Southern counties champ show which is at the same venue because the vital difefrence is that at agility shows everyone sets up base at their cars and returns to them on a regular basis.

At breed shows everything is taken into the showground and so I only ever take entered dogs to the show with me,whereas at agility the whole gang goes along for a day out.

I do think that car passes could have a ref number on them which could identify the owners,as they do at many agility shows,and owners who leave dogs in hot cars could be named and shamed as there really is no excuse for doing so

Someone at Bath suggested that they were ejected forthwith from the show and entries refused in future.

I used the unentered dogs tent for my two boys while we were there and was so grateful for this facility--I have paid up to £6 per dog and consider this well worth the service. Unless all shows offer this I can't see how the KC can really crack down on people who leave their dogs in cars. As it is we now won't be going to East of England because I won't leave the boys at home and I certainly won't be leaving them in the car!

I didn't see any dogs in closed cars at Bath, but there were a number in vans and estates with side doors and hatches open. The dogs were not in distress when I saw them, but having said that I would not want to take any risks. I know the tents can get warm, but the difference is that there are volunteers there at all times who can observe the dogs, take them out if needed and make sure they stay cool enough.
