My auntie is due a litter of a very successful bitch. Upon mailing (first time) the bitch screamed constantly for around 10 mins. Due to the stress to her the maiting wasn't repeated. Scan has since confirmed in whelp Auntie now worried how she will take to whelping.
Obviously it's not unheard of for the bitch to have a little cry but she claims this constant screaming was very alarming even to the owners of a very successful and experienced stud.

Small breed in ulitilty group.

Advice appreciated

Some bitches scream a lot during mating. I have one that does, and it she had 3 litters without problems.

can your vet perhaps do an examination to make sure there is nothing internally that is causing the problem?

I had one bitch who screamed the whole time they were tied. As the stud lived in the middle of a housing estate & the mating took place in the garden, it was embarrassing to say the least. I'm sure it wasn't pain that was making her scream more a case of "OMG, what's happening to meeeeeeeeeeeee" She had a litter of 6 with no problems and no screaming (thankfully!)

My Bro's bitch screamed constantly during mating.   They thought it was a case of "OMG what's happening?"  (Very experienced stud owner)  But in her case it was an internal problem which meant she couldn't give birth naturally.  This was only discovered when she went over dates, the caesarian came too late for the singleton pup and they were very lucky to save the bitch :(

As others have said, it doesn't necessarily mean a problem but just be aware of the possibility ;)   You may want to get her assessed internally just in case, but in my Bro's case even scans and x-rays didn't show anything out of the ordinary, it was only apparent when they did the caesarian.  Vet said it was very rare ;)

Ellie yelped a fair bit on one of her matings, not the whole way through though. As others have said, she will most likely be fine with whelping, but just be aware of the possibility of problems. :-)

My bitch yelped initially on her first mating but was fine after that and layed by the stud giving him kisses whilst tied.

A fellow breeder of my breed then got a Lassa Apso[sorry about spelling] and she was fine during the mating but screamed the house down all through the labour and wasn't a very good Mum so never tried her again or that breed.

Some bitches can get strictures in the vagina due to infection or previous trauma so worth getting them checked out if there is excessive pain during the mating rather than find out when the bitch goes into labour and can't pass the pups.

I had one that would scream at mating but no problems at all giving birth.

My bitch was the opposite.  She made not a murmur during mating and in fact, made a gutteral howl(as if enjoying).  She's a tart!lol  But during whelping, just as the first pup was out, she started to panic and screaming.  She had to be restrained(to stop her running off) and I had to help but as she thought it was me causing the pain, she bit me.  We have a fantastic litter and teeth holes in my hand!lol.  Funnily enough, she realised straight away that I had been helping and she is even closer to me now(if that were possible) so I've forgiven the mauling hehe.

Know one knows how a first time bitch is going to react, one of my girls made a noise like a seal/sealion each time she started to push in ernest so I knew the next pup wasn't far away.

Sounds like my Lexi, (other than the biting).

Years ago we had a bitch that was the biggest screamer on the planet you only had to step over her and she would scream like you just kicked her, she would complain like mad when being mated too, but when it came to giving birth, not a sound from her
