Earlier this week, a beautiful Flat-Coated Retriever bitch belonging to a friend of a friend was lost to anti-freeze poisoning. Since anti-freeze is sweet, animals are happy to drink it if they come across some in a puddle or in the car park. It takes a very small amount to be fatal, and even licking it off the paws after stepping in a puddle is enough. This problem could easily be solved by putting a taste deterrent in the anti-freeze. I've added a link to an e-petition which is requesting that the government make it a requirement for manufacturers to add a taste deterrent to anti-freeze.

It's really sad that there are people out there who would do something like putting anti-freeze in puddles. However, it will continue to happen as long as the taste is so attractive to animals. Meanwhile, keeping a washing bowl by the door and washing your dog's paws after a walk is one preventative measure that may save your dog's life.

so sad. really sorry your poor friends fog was lost.

I think it is an utter scandle that antifreeze without bitter agent is allowed to be sold anywhere. countless animals die through accidents and deliberate acts of cruelty every year but in addition to that there are even cases of children getting hold of it-and its just as fatal to humans. would only add a penny or two to a bottle to make it safe
