Can any tell me if this just includes full siblings, or (more helpfully) does it include half siblings?  I think it's just the full siblings, so not very useful :-(
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.05.12 15:42 UTC
only full siblings
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 22.05.12 15:53 UTC
thanks, pretty well useless then :-( as I thought, thank heavens for the breed special databases then.... so spoiled with the border collie one

it would be more helpful if it gave names....
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.05.12 15:59 UTC
I suspect the reason no names are given is that would give you an open database, at present you have to pay for that info, by means of breed reports, Breed Records supplement etc.

for an excellent open database see the Finnish Koiranet, all the pedigrees are linkable, tells you who dogs bitches mated to, their offspring their test details, major show/trial accomplishments etc.

Also registrations real time, no waiting months for BRS.

We have a brilliant one for Goldens. All the work of one person. Superb for info
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 22.05.12 19:23 UTC
thanks but don't need to, I have the one I mentioned above for border collies :-)  As you say, registrations real time, also health tests, full pedigrees, colours, coefficients etc ...everything really going back to early 1900s and the first ISDS registrations ... just need the equivalent for shelties.....
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.05.12 19:27 UTC
but that's the point it's all piecemeal, we need one for all breeds centrally, at source where the registrations happen.

You can't have real time registration details as you won't have the UK details until the BRS are published, but they are there as they get done on the KC database, we just don't get to access it..

What you can do is to put the parents names in and follow the link and it will then show all their offsprings results, but you won't know which result goes with which offspring.

you can actually as people can add their litters as they get their registration documents, plus you can add health tests etc as soon as you get them.. it all goes on when the database is updated, so no need to wait for the BRS - of course it's limited in what people add, but most are happy to do add things, or we do have to wait for the BRS if they don't....also of course with collies it's not just KC dogs, there are ISDS ones as well, so the BRS isn't applicable for them....

yes, not very helpful :-(

I must admit that I rarely use the kc health test finder purely because of the lack of information. I now get the brs and can look up the details there, but it isn't collated. We do have a worldwide data base which I do use but they stopped adding details a few years ago. There are now new administrators and they are doing their best to catch up. So if the details are already in the public domain, why oh why can't the KC put it on their website?!?!? :-(
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 23.05.12 13:15 UTC
I don't know :-( some of my dog's info is missing and also a dog I'm wanting to use - they don't even recognise his name! yet he's dual registered with a raft of health checks :-(  I know it's a big job, but it was professed to be a useful tool in helping make decisions, but as everything's anonymous, what use is it, even if it was up to date?  Must stop moaning and be grateful for our independent BC database.....
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 23.05.12 13:28 UTC

>they don't even recognise his name!

Check that you haven't included his titles, and that you've spelled his name exactly as it is on his registration certificate; the computer won't recognise it otherwise.
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 23.05.12 13:40 UTC
I have done all that - I am aware of the inability of their database to give you options if your spelling is bad, unlike other, better, databases.

One of my boys who has died has had more litters on there than he ever had when he was alive.  Keep on meaning to get in touch with the KC to see where they get their numbers from.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 23.05.12 16:59 UTC
I suspect as it is only in the public domain if it is paid for.
- By Trialist Date 24.05.12 19:17 UTC
There are many errors on the KC database when it comes to dual registered BCs, they admit it themselves.

Just be wary of the independant database you refer to for BCs ... it's only as good as the people who are entering the information. Whilst originally they may have got info from the KC sites, there are many (I DO mean many, errors). It's a useful database, but should be relied on entirely :-D
- By Trialist Date 24.05.12 19:34 UTC
Ooops, last sentence should have read "should NOT be relied on entirely"!

I for one haven't added all my dog's data to it ... not sure why I would want to!
