Last yr I bought a dwarf peach tree which is supposed to be suitable for both growing in a container and being hardy. Well  it has flowered this yr and I've just noticed there is lots of fruit developing. So my question is what if anything do I need to do to ensure I get edible peaches?

Don't let it dry out - most fruit needs water and sun to ripen - and look at protecting the fruit from birds.

Keep an eye on the weather reports as a late frost might see it off, particularly if it's still in a pot.  A sunny wall, conservatory or greenhouse could be handy as these aren't easy fruits to grow in our climate.

Have a look online at advice from the RHS

We had our first fruits last year and just made sure the container was kept watered.

The peaches were fabulous and tasted just devine !

We have bought another one this year and also a nectarine tree.

Thanks for the tips,I've been covering it at night with some fleece and I make sure it is well watered. It's in a 30lt container which is the size I was recommended to plant it in and I have been giving it a liquid feed once a week. It's in a sheltered spot in the garden so fingers crossed I will be eating my home grown peaches  in a few months. If I have some success I may add a nectarine tree as I do like nectarines. It would have to be a dwarf variety though cos my garden is not huge.

Sounds like you are doing brilliantly - we bought ours the year before last and it developed peach leaf curl - got to keep picking the leaves off - never had fruit only flowers.  It looks a bit sad now.  What do you use to feed it with?

I'm using Richard Jacksons premium plant food. I did try Miracle Grow last yr but far from producing lots of flowers I had loads of green growth,it was like having a bush in a basket lol. So I'm giving this stuff a go,its had a lot of very good reviews so I'll see what happens.

I went and had a good look at my tree after your post and was amazed to see some tiny fruit!  I have been reading up about feeding pots - a slow release fertilser with a top dressing seems to be the thing.  RHS advices Vitax Q4.  Monty Don was going on about liquid seaweed but that is one for leaves to absorb so more complicated.
