hey every1 just a little advice my cat is in season n ive not seen her sice dinner time 2day is it normal for a female not 2 come bk

HEAD BRICK WALL!!!!
This was something I saw one of my friends had replied to on Facebook.
Now I am right in thinking that a cat doesnt have seasons, it calls until mated????

So pleased dogs have to be kept under control as this was a reply to her
My cat was in season over new year she went for 3 days I was out looking trying to find her but then she come back and was pregnant lol...

This was in a group of animals for sale and wanted, which I am not a member of so cannot reply and put them right, but looks like they all just want fluffy kittens.
Where is my mobile brick wall!!!

Gordon Bennett. For a start yes a queen does not come into season, she comes into call. Initially, each call will last about 5 days, then (depending on time of year  if the cat goes outside, not so much if it is an indoor cat) it is usually around 3 weeks or so until the next call. If she does not get mated, the calls will happen more and more frequently until there is only about a week in between, and eventually they will last longer and longer until you can have a call that goes on for weeks without stopping. That's when you get problems as it then gets more difficult for her to get pregnant, she will lose condition by the constant calling, it's not a good idea to spay her whilst in call, and all of this can eventually lead to fallopian cysts. It's something us breeders have to deal with all the time -myself I am lucky to have a neutered male who has never stopped mating so he will happily mate calling queens and they will then stop for a while as often it is enough to have been mated even though she did not get pregnant. But a cat going out -chances of her NOT getting pregnant are very slim indeed as there will be a variety of male cats around happy and willing to try. And some of them may very well carry the FIV virus and then pass it on when they mate her!

This is the reason pet cats do need neutering for population control, where dogs can simply be managed in order not to reproduce.

I come on a dog forum and not only do I increase my dog knowledge but also learn more about cats :) brilliant goldimal  I have  had pet cats from when I was a child. Ours have always been neutered from quite young the boys I leave longer to fully develop secondary characteristics.(rightly or wrongly ??) I feed them on tinned food and had know idea cats diets were so complex.
You live and learn, such a useful forum
