Is there now a rule either by the club itself or by KC that stewards are not allowed to eat their lunch in the ring. I was told at Birmingham Show that there had been a complaint made by a committee member that I was eating in the ring.
This a new one on me -I have been stewarding for 10 years.
I realize that it can be off putting for the dogs if they get a smell of food drifting there way and the owner would , quite rightly say something.
If one does steward and you are on your own for 5 hours and there is no relief steward what does one do in that case?
I was told that if you are wanting some food that you have to go out of the ring and eat.
I hasten to add that one can have sweets and hot drinks but no sandwiches, crisps etc.
I would be interested in your replys
Thank you
I have just checked the rules and regulations 2012 and can't find any mention of not eating in the ring in the duties of stewards section.
I understood that it was good etiquette not to eat in the ring, I always take a pack of polos and bottle of water to keep me going and make sure I have a large bowl of porridge in the morning to set me up for the day. Can usually last 9-3pm as long as I get the chance to nip to the loo at least once during that time. Usually in-between change of judge if more than one judge/breed in the ring. If just one judge, then they will usually take at least one comfort break, so can coincide with that. As soon as I leave the ring always tuck into a chocolate bar to keep the energy levels up.
