Can you believe until this weekend, I have never had to deal with ticks!
My sister has even had them on her own legs.....
How ever my poor girl has had 2  (so far) on her chest that I have had to remove, but WHY?
This is the girl who was spayed 11 days ago so has barely been anywhere, but restricted to shorter lead walks on the roads ......
Do you suppose it is possible she caught them at the surery or has Jack ( my boy ) brought them in and just not succumbed himself?

If you have hedgehogs in your garden she could easily have picked the ticks up there.

I find my younger one carry them back to the house in her coat, then they get on the older dogs that dont get walked as much.

After a nasty tick incident last year, I took advice from someone who posted on here not long ago [scottishquine?] who was from BADA - Borreliosis and Associated Diseases Awareness UK
http://www.bada-uk.org

....and ordered some Calendula oil from them, which is an effective tick repellent. I haven't had to use it as yet, due to various personal issues meaning I'm not walking my dogs in tick areas at the moment.

But I have the Calendula oil ready and have decanted some into a small plastic pump-spray bottle from Boots with which I can mist the dogs' undercarriage, if needed.

BADA's tick awareness is for humans too... as there has been a huge rise in human tick-borne disease, so if you know anyone who's been bitten by a tick, do check them out. Ray Mears, the Bushcraft and Survival expert, is featured in their literature as he feels there is not enough awareness of Lyme disease in the country.

Thanks all :)
I have found more on her :( all in the same area about 3 now hope that is it!
I am guessing that Jack brought them back from walking on the common, and was lucky not to have any settle on him, perhaps as she was so scrubbed and cleansed she was more appealing to the little blighters.

You may have a fox run through your garden too.I have used frontline with no problems and make sure if they are walking in a likely area I spray under chest , belly , inside stifles. I spray on kitchen roll and wipe ears , face and under their jaws.
