Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Junior Warrant points

Can you gain junior warrant points from Open Shows where there is not a class for your breed so have to go in the "any variety terrier/hound etc"?
If not then does it mean that a Junior Warrant can not be obtained for a less common breed?

Unless the KC have changed the rules you can only gain JW points from a breed class and I have a feeling there now has to be a specified amount of dogs in a class to get JW points

Hi all,
Yes the rules on JW points have ben changed again recently. Now only three points are required from Open Shows, three points from Champ Shows with CCs on offer for the breed, and the rest made up of a combination of points from either type of show, Open Show points also available at Champ Shows where there are no CCs on offer for the breed. The age range is still the same 6-18 months. Now seemingly, no gap between shows neccessary. All this from breed classes only. AVNSC does not count.I hope this helps to clarify the matter.

No, the 3 per class rule remains the same.

No, still has to be 3 at least in a class. My Mia got her's the hard way, if this system had been in now, she would've had her's by 13 months of age not 15.

Can someone tell me does the new point system mean that if you are in the middle of trying for JW that extra points from say LKA can be used? For example We have won 6 classes at Champ level up ato LKA so does that we only need 7 points at open or Champ show or will I only be able to use 5 champ wins and still get 10 points at open or Champ after January 1st?Hope that makes sense?????!!!!???Gail:) :) :)

Doesn't all this go to show that it was so much simpler under the old system?

best phone K/club about l.k.a. all i know because i was on the phone to them yesterday is once you have 3 points from open and 3 points from champ you can make up your points from any to make up 25 points

Hi Gail,

Conversations at London Collie this weekend seem to conclude that all JWs being claimed now can be claimed under the NEW rules, even for points won last year. So, you no longer need the 3 days clear, and can use your LKA points.

KC will give you a definite answer though.

Thanks for that. Don't think we will get there as our breed has to go in Any Variety Terrier at open shows. Nevermind.

Onluy br4eed classes with 3 dogs present count. In my breed when they made it a rule that 10 classes had to be won at Open shows, only 1 exhibit has won a Junior warrant. Our new puppy has won 12 points at Open shows, and now it doesn't have top any more, only has to have one class at either type of show, and any combination of champ or open shows.

My champion bitch won around 32 points, but as she only had 6 class wins with 3 in class at Open shows, she couldn't get a JW. On the system just announ=ced she would have.

It is difficult for rare breeds as often there aren't the 3 dogs per class present in the puppy/Junior classes, and pups don't often beat adults.

Speaking to a friend who also got her JW by the "hard" system, tonight. We think this one will make it very easy to obtain now, will that give any significance to the JW? Especially as the stud book number is granted with it?

When the "new style" JW was introduced a few years ago, only 5 Munsters have won it but these have been dogs that have been consistent winners in Puppy & Junior classes. I won Mia's & I live in Scotland where LM open show classes are vey few & far brtween plus I had the F&M crisis that curbed the beginning of her show career. To me, to add JW after her name says that she has achieved something of worth. This newer system, I feel cheapens the award.
