Topic Dog Boards / Health / Will a stroke decrease my dog's life span?

I have a 10 year old staff who recently had a small stroke, I need to know if it will effect her life span because she means a lot to me.

Sorry to hear your dog's poorly. :-( Strokes are relatively rare for dogs, but there is a syndrome (vestibular syndrome) that is often referred to as a stroke, but is very much recoverable, although the dog might have a head-tilt afterwards. One of the definitive symptom is flickering eyes; if your dog's eyes were flickering from side to side then there is an excellent chance that a good recovery will be made and she has several more years of active life ahead.

What was your vets comments on her stroke?

I had a Goldie who had a "stroke" at 13. He lived until he was just over 17, so certainly didn't shorten his life.

I hope you dog feels better soon.
