Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / margo the dog - puppy panels?
- By Noora Date 13.05.12 15:48 UTC
Has anybody got these :)?
I'm getting some panels and quite like the fact they can be joined together in two different ways
-bolted together to allow for rigid square/wall/crate like shape with roof
- "clipped together" making rounded shapes possible
Haven't found any other panels like this but don't know anybody who used them so can tell me if they have been happy/had issues :).

We have three croft playpens (same style as margo the dog make), its very good.

When we were ready to buy additional puppy pens we found the margo the dog ones and from the photo they looked identical to the croft ones but much cheaper (should have known!!).  It was rubbish, absolute rubbish.  Not sure if the one you describe is the same, however ours wouldn't fit together at all no matter how much brute force we applied.

It was returned for a full refund (although we wern't refunded the delivery costs).  When that went back we bought two additional croft ones so we could set the three up together to make a larger pen (that was the idea with the margo the dog one but that wouldn't fit together by itself let alone merge with the croft one).

Perhaps the one you are looking at is different, however from our experience we felt you get what you pay for.  Our margo the dog one was a cheap copy of the good croft one and very poor quality.  Hopefully yours will be OK.

I too have bought one of the Margo the dog pens to use with my next litter, I thought it was very good value for money, but seeing's that I am now waiting for my bitch to come into season it will be a while before I get to use it for the first time. I did put it up when I first got it and it was out of the box and assembled inside 5 minutes!! So easy and quick and you can just keep adding to it.

Sorry, no experience of Margo the dog panels but we do have Croft panels and they've been great. We've used them for pens & barriers. They also clip onto our crates and can be used for a run. We have two different kinds of Croft gates and I much prefer the opening ones as opposed to the drop-down sort. The Croft ones can also be used outdoors but I've only ever used them outdoors in the summer so not sure how they'd be in all weathers.

We have 4 Margo the Dog pens, 2 of the 4 are coming up to 3yrs old (still no rust). They are hosed down outside with jeyes fluid after every litter has left and still look brand new.
Very simple to slide to together and for extra height we bolt ours together so pups cannot jump out (giant breed) once they get to that naughty stage.

We also loan ours out to people who use our studs and always get a great thanks and reviews of being very simple to use.
My only criticism would be that the latch on the outside of the doors are easy for naughty puppies to work out how to open, but other than that fantastic quality for the little money.

I bought some for my last litter, the large whelping pen and three extra panels.
There's good and bad with them I feel.

The pen I ordered (early last year) was advertised as 11 panels plus 2 doors. There's actually only ten panels and despite my having pointed this out to them I see they still advertise it with 11 (they did refund me £10).

Unless they've changed the design since I purchased mine -

1)    The large whelping cage cannot be created as shown, with the internal divider, as it's not possible to join three panels together .

2)    If you want the pen to hold a square shape it needs to be adapted, mine was done with nuts & bolts and metal sleeves over the joins, otherwise the panels pivot on the pins that are supplied to join them together.
I assume you would also need to seperately purchase nuts & bolts if you wish to stack the panels as it doesn't mention that they are supplied.

In my experience they don't ever respond to emails, I had to phone to get any response.

The panels are however very robust and it is quick and easy to join two together.

Now you see, that depends on interpretation of naughty.  :-)

Working out how to open things is pretty bright in my book!  :-)

Anyone have any links to pics of these Margo ones?

Croft are a blast from the past for me. They were originally made in Islington, London, not too far from where I lived at the time, when I had a litter of 7 Oriental kittens and desperately needed something to contain them at night, as they were pinging off the walls. I went along to the Croft warehouse and bought 3 x kitten pens which I joined together to give them a huge run...

....However as I used public transport and the Croft factory was 15 mins or more walk from the nearest bus stop, I had to buy one at a time, and carry it folded to the bus stop, finagle it onto the bus, and then walk more than 100yds with it at the other end... Times three!!

I googled them and came up with this

I've bought and used these for my last 2 litters  http://www.doghealth.co.uk/collections/puppy-pens/products/puppy-runs-indoor (the K900) and this http://www.doghealth.co.uk/collections/puppy-pens/products/puppy-run-big-foot They can be connected together and the 1st one has internal slots for you to connect the divider (it also comes with a plastic tray)

I agree with Chris, MTD one's are rubbish, I went back to Croft too, my very first pen I bought years ago from Croft and it's still going strong,  I had the same problem with MTD pens, hard putting the panels together and once they were together, an absolute nightmare trying to take them apart again....in fact one of the pins locking it into the next panel pulled out and was stuck in the adjoining panel.
