Think this is the stuff that is used for mange etc., if so I can only tell you for a 25kg dog it is 1ml. It is not the sort of stuff to take a risk with you must speak to your vet and find out the advised amount, the method of giving the drug and when to give it. Jackie

All I know is that it is FATAL to collies and collie types hence its not licensed to be used on dogs.I`ve heard of several poor souls to lose their lives after having ivomec and I ALWAYS give a written warning to people who buy our puppies and ask them just to remind their vets not to use it on Roughs etc.Gail:) :) :)

My westie had 1ml of ivomec but I also had an antidote in case of a reaction, which did happen. If I had not had the antidote the dog would have died. It is not licensed for use on dogs and must be given by a vet who has told you the risks. You may be asked to sign a disclaimer.

You will be asked to sign a disclamer, it's not licenced in the UK. But if like me you have no choice but to use it, it does work well. The way I use it is some days on treatment and some days off. I would suggest that you do as your vet suggests and stop treatment if the dog seems unwell. Jackie

Hi, the reastion that sometimes happens is very violent - its not a case of the dog just being "unwell". They can go into anaphalactic shock which will kill the dog in under an hour and ireversable damage can be done before you get back to the vet. In my experience Ivomec injections either induce no reaction at all or a possibly fatal one. No offence intended jackie, just thought I would make what I had previously said, clearer.

No offence WL, it is not known to cause a problem in any but collie breeds, so I am glad I did not know of your problem before I started using it on my dog. He has been on it now for about 4 months, and is very much better about another month to go. Jackie

...but Jackie - how many breeds have collie in their genetic makeup somewhere back?
Off on a bit of a tangent, many horses are regularly wormed with Ivomec (Eqvalen). My dogs are persistant eaters of horse poo on the common, and I have often wondered what was the risk of picking up a poo which has been treated with Ivomec.
Jo and the Casblaidd Flatcoats (who probably have a bit of collie blood in the dim distant past)

I think most people would know the background of the breed they have chosen one of the reasons for not owning a xbreed is that you do know.
