Topic Other Boards / Foo / Horse/pony experts advice on headcollars please!

I am struggling to find a headcollar for my son's 12.1hh pony.  I like the old fashioned type where you can easily undo/adjust the noseband as pony is sometimes a little "cherub" when tacking/untacking (more my useless fumblings than his fault to be honest).

He came with lilac headcollar which seems to fit him really well, no size on it though.  My pony headcollars are just that little bit too baggy on him for my liking.  Can anyone suggest a size or a brand that I could look at please?

Many thanks for any help!

I think you should be able to buy a 'shetland' size which should fit, failng that if the head is dianty what about a yearling/foal collar?  I know the ones you mean with the additional side buckle, I know the cheaper head collars don't do that design.  We always used Cottage Craft but that was a while ago.

What about these?  Cottage Craft don't seem to do smaller than pony..

You could take your old head collar to a large equestrian retailer if you have one close by. You could then measure it against the ones they have there.

If they don't have the type you want at least you will know the size your looking for.

Thank you for your responses, knew I could rely on cd'ers!  I tend to shop online as we don't really have large retailers nearby.  Some very useful links though thanks, will also help me when it comes time for buying a new rug as all my other pony stuff is 5'3" & I've got a feeling this lad is 4'9" which my usual online "haunts" don't go down to :-(

Thanks again :-D
