Topic Dog Boards / Health / Am I being over anxious?

I have brought my girl home post spay and she seems rather wheezy?
Now then.....If she was human I would be encouraging her to hold a pillow to her tummy and to breath deeply and cough and move around some......
Poor little thing is still very sleepy and I am twitchy.

Okay, I am over myself, she is still wheezy, but its okay....she is fine really :)
Just in needs of lots of love and attention.
She made me feel so bad as I gently walked her to the car she leapt in as I opened the door, Yikes !!  Felt so guilty for not being ready for that!

One of my girls was a bit wheezy afterwards and very stoned for overnight, I carried her out to do a wee and she just stood there swaying. I think they may insert a tube down the throat (?) so I gave some Manuka honey in case there was any soreness there and arnica to help healing.

I know they are a worry, 2 days after spey I was trying to stop mine jumping on and off the bed! If you are worried ring and speak to the emergency vet, if it reassures you.

I've nothing to add except I hope she feels better soon.  And what a bad mum! Not expecting her to leap into the car after major surgery!!lol:)

They most certainly do!  And at the hospital that I use, it is part of a veterinary nurses training to remind you that they may cough afterwards due to irritation.  I know that the girls at my surgery get into trouble if they forget to tell you as part of the post op discharge.

Thank everyone.
She is still a bit wheezy, as I said I know a tiny bit about human animals so shouldn't be so stupid ............

I don't think it's stupid at all- it's because we care :) I am sure she will be zooming around soon and all the worry will be a distant memory. Whilst I'd like to be a tad tougher when it comes to my feelings about my lot I think it is better to be concerned than have  the attitude of some towards their dogs and I'm sure my dogs prefer me that way too :0

Definitely!   The worse attitude to get my goat is "my dog seems a bit unwell, if he doesn't get better in a week, I'll phone the vet"   Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm sure that your dogs are perfectly happy with the way you are Sawheaties.  :-)

It is like when we went to the Vets during easter week and it was so quiet. We commented on this with the receptionist and were told that it normally is during school holidays as people are often too busy to bring their sick animals. After the holidays it becomes busy again!!!

I had to have a GA myself last year, and afterwards my throat felt like someone had forced a giant hosepipe down it. It was very sore and I was hoarse for about a week. Now I know how they feel.
