have any of you gone into the ring with a dog that may of had a bit of fur shaved off their leg ?
or would you not bother and wait till it grew back in?
or would it depend on the type of breed and coat ?

My first CC was won with a bitch (double coated breed) missing two inches of fur on leg from being hip scored (I'd forgotten to remind them not to shave).
The only thing was in photos it made her look as if she had a crooked leg, with a bit scalloped out.

My breed has a very short unforgiving coat and shows up every scratch and yes I have shown my girl with a shaved patch on her side as she needed stitches after impaling herself on something. Thankfully it was not judge's side lol. I've also shown her with a patch of hair missing from her muzzle (burnt nose trying to steal from the oven!), that was judges side. Both times she was placed in a big class. I've seen lots of dogs in the ring with little shaved bits.
Personally, I wouldn't drop out from a class unless there was failing health or lameness or if I felt embarrassed about something, because that would send negative signals to the dog.

I've seen a dog win a large class (10+) still with stitches in, let alone a small shaved area!

My girl won her class recently with a bald patch between her shoulders from her spot-on flea and tick treatment. (its never happened to any of mine before but it had to happen to my girl that was entered into a ch show)!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've shown my coated breed with bits shaved from legs etc. Once I showed Henry after he'd had a cardiogram and I'd forgotten to mention the shaved, luckily they had had the sense to leave the leg feathering alone so the big bald patch all round his armpit didn't show up too much. I also showed him with a bald patch under his chin after he had a small lump removed. The judges never seemed to mind, even when they noticed!

I wouldn't worry about a shaved leg. At one Ch. show a bitch in open class was entered with half her face shaved which was mentioned by the judge in her critique.

About 10 years ago I showed a dog with 2 shaved legs (Vet), he was placed but I would never do it again.

i was thinking about asking this exact question as once my girl is ready id like to get her back showing off in the ring, but where she had to be shaved it is growing back slowerly.

Basically, if she's good enough it won't make any difference.
thankyou everyone we will go in the ring and see what happens

Took one of my girls in a few months ago after she'd had a blood test and had been clipped. The judge didn't even notice until I pointed it out all he could comment on was that she was the only dog that he'd seen so far that day with beautiful white teeth, even young dogs he said did not have teeth like hers.....

I showed one of mine after she had a spinal tap done, so almost the whole of the back of her neck was shaved! She was a young puppy, and the hair had started to grow back (took a loooong time!). She was placed 5th in the pro-plan puppy stakes!!
