If Ed got a kindle and registered it to my account, would he be able to get all my kindle books on his device permanently ?
- By Nova Date 28.04.12 22:07 UTC
Yes.
- By Celli [gb] Date 29.04.12 08:54 UTC
Cheers :-)

But he would also have to buy any books he wanted through your account too.
- By Celli [gb] Date 29.04.12 18:40 UTC
Yeah, he would have to anyway, he's too dozey to set up his own account lol.

My husband and I have one account for two Kindles and it works really well.  We 'share' a number of books and it's so much nicer not to have to wait for each other to finish a paper book.  However you can also choose which device to send the book to, so we don't have to receive each others books unless we want to :)

The books will stay on your account permanently too, so even if you choose to delete them from your Kindle, you can reload them at any time

The main reason he now wants one is because it's working out to be quite expensive to buy paper versions of great books I've stumbled upon !.

If I'm uber charming I might be able to wangle the new Touch Kindle and he can have my old one, although it is less than 6 months old.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the touch version...  I've been thinking of upgrading and would be keen to read some feedback from someone who's used the older version first :)

I got the Touch from Tesco today, and I'm really liking it so far, for the extra £20 I feel it's well worth the money.
Straight out of the box and you do notice it's a wee bit heavier, but not by much, and certainly not enough to be a drawback, it's also a bit thicker, but again, not a problem, as it's not by much. I haven't done a side by side comparison ( can do if you want ) but I'd say the print is darker, you can also alter the script as well as the font, there are three options to choose from.
The Touch screen is excellent, you can either swipe or tap the screen, I'd say the transition from page to page is just the same as the old un'.
The dictionary is a lot easier, just touch the word and the dictionary pops up, also works with highlighting whole passages for doing notes.
Really tickled by the magnify option on images, just touch and hold on an image and a wee magnifying glass appears, touch it and the image gets bigger. You can also increase the size like you do on an IPad.
I had a shot of the text to speech function, you couldn't enjoy a book by listening with this function, it's a bit satnavy, but a fun addition, you can alter the gender of the speaker and the rate of speech.
You can also listen to music while you read if you have mp3 files, and listen to proper audio books.
It took me a while to stop pressing the sides to turn the page, but all in all, it's just as good as the original, but with bells and whistles too.

Forgot to mention the keyboard, which is much quicker to use, the keys are far enough apart that you don't hit keys you don't mean too.

hi...im thinking about a kindle too so thanx fo the review! the only thing thats putting me off is the lack ov a backlight? ive been told there is a very good reason why no backlight...but still thinking they will bring a new one out soon with one?? emma x
- By Celli [gb] Date 04.05.12 18:01 UTC
My OH said the same thing, my reply was " well books don't come with a backlight, so why does the Kindle need one !? " :-)

The OH also said I was to stop being so smug with my new toy or he'd swap it for the old one ! lol.

I bought a case for my Kindle that has a light which is excellent for nightime reading. It wasn't cheap but worth every penny and got it from Amazon.

Enid Blyton not on Kindle!!  I have been trying to find out why one of the authors I like reading has not got his old books on Kindle - yes I did have them but a couple had gone missing.   Tad Williams writes fantasy - and he loves bringing out books in trilogies then finding he needs to split a book again - hence at least 4 books in a series.   I read bks 1,2,3 of the ShadowMarch series about 5 years ago I suppose.  Waited ages for the last book to come out.  Now I have forgotten most of what the story was about!..   So I looked to see if I could get them on Kindle - only the newest book was available.  Going onto his forum I got told that if I changed my settings to USA then I could buy the book - may get a bit of trouble with credit cards though.

I should say so - tried to book live streaming for the W.A.O in Belgium.  The price is in dollars - works out about £15 but my cards were declined on Paypal.  Next thing I got a call from one of the card providers who thought I had fraud on my card!  How I am going to get round this I don't know.  Only setting up a direct debit with Paypal which I don't want to do. :-(

> the only thing thats putting me off is the lack ov a backlight?

This is in fact the major ADVANTAGE of the Kindle (and where ti scores over many E readers) as it avoids the eye strain caused by computer screen backlighting and you therefore can read for hours like a real book, even in bright sunlight.

The latest version not over here yet called the Kindle fire is more like an IPad with backlit colour computer type screen.

I wish the touch version had been available when I got my WiFi keyboard version with the same 4GB memory.

I won't be able to farm the old one off on hubby as he is one of those men who does not read for pleasure.  if it isn't a technical manual it's not going to be read.

Ceejay, I have the same problem with Raymond E Feist books, I wanted the first Riftwar book on kindle as my copy has such tiny writing it's uncomfortable to read, but it's not on Kindle, although the others are.
