Heya all I'm new to the boards, have been browsing a while but don't normally post. I have a small breed dog that I am breeding for the first time. Iv done all the relevant health tests for her breed and have tried to.gain as much knowledge aspossible beforehand. question is regarding the ultrasounds. My bitch would be on day 39 now from firsttie, when i get her scanned will they check her pelvis to make sure it is wide enough for pups heads? Sorry about my writing not being very good I'm on a phone x
Sorry its a bit late to check for pelvis width now. Lets hope she's wide enough. You or scanner should be able to gage it, is there sufficient room between her legs at the top, can you get your hand to sit comfortably between legs. Does she cross her legs when she walk or are her hocks (think its hocks for bits i'm thinking of) close together when she stands/walks.
I'm sure you question is probably a panic one, we think of these after even if we know. Did the stud owner check her, are then a breeder?
Hope that helps. i don't think a scan will pick it up but i'm not sure xx
i think its just xrays that pick up this??

yes its a pelvimetry x-ray or CT scan that would be able to guage the width available but then it would all depend on the size of each puppies heads at the time of the birth so even that would not be 100% clear as to potential problems
Thanks for your replies. Yes the stud dog owner checked her over and I have a mentor who has too. I think I am probably over thinking everything and worrying. I just want to be well prepared really. X
Make sure you have lubricating gel handy, it helps if pups are a little stuck.
I think you're right and just on a panic.
You can spot a narrow pelvis by judging the back end but an x-ray would show you.
