OK, pretty much as the title says, I think we're not far off, but as this is my first litter, could you perhaps let me know what you think based on your experiences?

She is 63 days from the first mating on Friday (this week), she was also mated on the sunday a second time

I have been taking her temperature for the last week, always around 37.5, she's had a couple of drops to about 36.7 once 2 days ago, and this morning. From yesterday she has been turning her nose up at her food, what she is eating, she tends to bring back up, although still seems very well in herself and still drinking plenty. She started digging in her whelping box yesterday, aswell as digging nice big holes in the garden since sunday. She also seems much happier in her bed or whelping box rather than going outside for a wee

She is very large and solid, and has started making little woofs at nothing (she's usually a very quiet dog). There's been no discharge/plug that I've seen, and she 's also been panting on and off for the last few days

As she's not due till at least friday, and this is her first litter, do you think we're not far off?

sounds like shes not going to be long because shes only 3 days from 63 :)! are you still taking her temp? what happens is the temp goes down and stays down for awhile did you check it was down for awhile? dont let her go out on her own and keep an eye on her all the time, good luck and keep us posted
it is very hard to say if your girl is about to have her pups without being able to see them x

Hiya...I've been watching to see if you'd post :) Our 1st mating was on the same Friday as yours, but 2nd was late on the Saturday night. We've also had panting, (since day 55) & stringy mucus type discharge on Saturday & Sunday. My girl had a litter 2 years ago, so I'm watching her like a hawk. I'm not sure if 2nd litters come quicker) Mine is doing a lot of sleeping & has gone off her food. Good luck, keep us posted :)

> We've also had panting, (since day 55)

And any bitch can whelp quite successfully with totally viable pups from day 56.  I have personally never had my breed go 63 days - not ever.

Good luck my bitch will be day 63 on sunday from 1st mating so not far behind you seems there are a few of us waiting, my girls temp ranges from 38.0 down to 37.2 was the reading this morning lowest it has ever been, this is her first litter, she has showed no signs at all apart from a bit of panting, still eating but started picking her eating up a bit 2 days ago as before that she was very picky.

will keep coming back to check for progress good luck again.

My girl didnt pass any plug or disharge at all before labour last time.  She is a giant breed and went on day 60 from 1st mating after several nights of digging and panting spells on and off (nothing during the day).  The give away for me was about 12 hours before she had the temp drop, she didnt really eat that day but done a lot of poo's and squeezed quite a bit while she was doing them so we were very vigilant to make sure there was nothing else coming out :)  The poo's got softer and less of it as the day went on and then that evening out the blue while quite happily laying at my feet her water went.  She didnt even bat an eye, I only knew because I seen the puddle and when she stood up her back end was wet.  First pup came about 20 minutes later.
Good luck it's such an exciting time!!

- By spudulike Date 19.04.12 16:46 UTC
Well, about 6 hours after I first posted the topic, she had her first one! The birthing was fairly straight forward, but so glad I had stocked up on everything for the whelping box, the dopram and obstetric gel was used, made things much easier. Am absolutely knackered now, although the adrenaline will keep me going for a few days

So what have you got spud, how many boys and girls?
- By aussiedogs [gb] Date 21.04.12 10:21 UTC

- By aussiedogs [gb] Date 22.04.12 15:01 UTC
Temp just been done again and it has gone back up to 37.3 it has been low since 9am is the drop long enough ?
- By JeanSW Date 22.04.12 16:03 UTC

>is the drop long enough ?

How long is a piece of string?  :-)  Not all bitches conform, and not all breeders find taking temperatures to be reliable.

Just get some matchsticks to prop those eyes open, and be prepared to lose sleep.  :-)

Loose poo sounds promising though.  Who said breeding was easy?
- By aussiedogs [gb] Date 22.04.12 16:10 UTC
Thank you yes I agree every bitch is different have got the match sticks at the ready LOL
- By Trialist Date 23.04.12 07:16 UTC
aussiedogs - Out of interest, when did the pups arrive?

Assume they have :-o Hope all went well :-)
- By aussiedogs [gb] Date 23.04.12 17:05 UTC
Yes they have arrived today we have 4 lovely pups,  3 bitches and 1 dog all are healthy and mum is doing great as it is her first litter,   1st born  11.40am 13oz,  2nd at 11.48am 15oz,  3rd 1pm 14oz,  4th 1.15pm 12oz .
- By white lilly [gb] Date 23.04.12 18:47 UTC
congratulation aussiedogs :)
- By Trialist Date 23.04.12 21:58 UTC
Oh congratulations. Really pleased for you. I have an admission ... I thought we were on the 28th not the 23rd! Hence demanding to know if pups arrived :-o

But am pleased for you. I have found the temp drop to 26C has indicated an imminent litter, which is why I asked if you'd update. Sadly I hadn't realised I was in a brain drain. So, let the work begin :-D Very pleased for you!
- By Trialist Date 24.04.12 09:00 UTC
hhm, excitement causes typing failure - I meant 36C in my post :-o

- By white lilly [gb] Date 24.04.12 21:25 UTC
well im not a vet! but it could go 1 way or the other, without it sounding wrong, she could go to day 63 and all is well or she could loose the pups ,at day 49 how do u know its her plug?? she could have an infection?? all the best i hope all goes well.
- By kipperman33 [gb] Date 24.04.12 22:03 UTC
