Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / IM having problems with my dog

Hi there im having problems with my patterdale terrier, she is now 7years old, and she has always lived with me and my mam and dad, when i moved out i couldn't bring her with me for 1year It broke my heart leaving her, but i would always pop down every 2weeks to see her a, then i moved her up to be with me, and she grow up with my mam and dads dog who sadly we lost a few months ago at the age of 17 but he let her get away with everything he was always to soft with her. And last September we got another dog well my partners dog, he is 10month's old and he is a bullmastiff. They get on fine, they kiss and sleep together in the same bed. yet every now and then, bailey will flip out and attack him yet she comes off work as he defends himself. We feed them separably, so they get fed in the same room but at different times. It's every few months she will flip out at him for nothing like yesterday he walked past her and she went for him so i had to separate them till they both carmed down, as afterwards he ends up making him self sick. Then after a minute or two, she is back to normal playing and kissing him and rolling on her back. I know i got her at 7weeks old and she had 2 or 3 fits as a puppy but never had any since. They are fine on walk's and when we take them out in the car. They are fine when we are out at work, i walk them 3 to 4 times a day with a long walk along the beach. I can't under stand it, she is my pride and job well they both are it would break my heart of anything happened to either one of them. She isn't spade which im am looking into getting done, when she gets her buster in September to see if that will help? I have been thinking could the fit's have caused some damaged as a pup? I know she isn't kean on strange dog's as when she was 1year old, we had her on a walk with my mam and dad's dog and she was attacked by a staffy he bite her on the back and since they she is wary of other dog's. I have no idea what else i can do, they both can't have treats when they are together as she lips out then too, so they havent had treats ina long time. But i cant seen to under stand why she flips out, yesterday brock walked passed her and she flip out, she has a little scratch on her but nothing bad, he is ok. I would be gratefull for any advice.

thanks amanda

Is he castrated and when is she due in season?

I'd seriously get her to the vets for a check up. With having these fits and them becoming more frequent I'd want this looked into.

On another note do you walk you BM on all those walks too? Just a wee little tip if you are, it's far too much for a 10mnth old large breed dog, max really should be around 45mins a day..

Hi no he isnt neutered, and she only had 3 fits as a pup she is now 7 and had no more, as when she flips it's not a fit, she was check out as a pup  and the vet said keep and eye on her and she never had anymore. I no it could be that the 3 fits did some damage, but they vet said she was ok, as long as she had no more and she never has. She is next due in season end of september. And we have always had bullmastiff lol so no he doesnt go one all the walks as he is to young to cope with it plus i no you not ment to walk them to much or to far. But out bullmastiff isnt neutered, plus my partner has always bred mastiffs so as his mam and dad. But i need to be able to sort out why she all of a soudon flips out on him then a minute later she is kissing him and snuggling into him. The vet wasnt to sure why she does it, they think it could be when she had the 3 fits as a pup it caused some brain damage, yet she never fliped out on me mam and dads dog she he brought her up, and he was a lovely dog, and he loved other dog's.
She is 7 and it's not like every month she flips out, last one apert from yesturday was begining of the year.

That's cool.. You hear so many people over walking puppies :-)

If she's not been to the vets in a whole of get her in for an MOT as such and explain her odd behaviour regardless. How often does she have seasons if she is next due in end of Sept? I take it she's just had a season if roughly every 6 mths, this could explain some of her behaviour. Anything she's doing in an odd fashion?

When she has a pop at the puppy what does she actually do? Can you describe it I'm detail? Does she actually bite, nip or something else? What is he doing at the moment she normally does this?

she has a season once every 6months give or take a few weeks some times shes early sometimes shes late.
Erm let me think, nothing i can think of, she still loves to play, they both run round the back garden like mentalists, She crawls along the floor and stamps her front feet shes always done it from being a puppy. But nothing has changed just she does when she flips. Then she starts to shake a bit after that's the only thing i can think of.

When she has a go at him she will dive for him with her teeth showing and snarling, and bites him just she never draws blood or anything but sometimes he nip's her and he does in self-defense. Then with in a second -1 minute shes licking him and playing with the toys, and everything's back to normal. But she will have hold of him bay the face or the neck but she never draws blood she like has hold of him if that makes sence. And he will try to shake or paw her off him, so i have to separate them which i do by spraying water which is the only thing i have found that breaks it up.

Brock could doing anything yesterday she was sat next to the radiator in sitting room which is next to a spiny round chair and he walked past her and the chair to get int the kitchen then all of a soudon she went for him. The last time before that was beginning of the year and they were sat next to each other then she flip. So Brock does nothing to be fair to him.
