Looking for a bit of advice.

My 4 years old Retriever has taken to going in to his bed early in the evenings and staying there till the morning. Up until recently he has always stayed wherever we are until bed time, and certainly never curled up in his bed unless it was cold !

He gets plenty of exercise, has another doggy companion and isn't left all day. He just seems really miserable and I don't know why. Any one have any suggestions?

Thank you

I'd be inclined to pop him to the vet just to make sure there's no underlying problem, such as low grade pain, before you look for any outside cause.

My 10 year old American cocker goes off to bed before the others, but it seems a bit odd in a 4 year old. Wouldn't hurt to get a vet check. :-)

I would be looking to blood test.  I agree that a vet visit to rule things out is the way to go.

My GR is nearly 7 and he will often take himself off to another room in the evening especially during the colder months when the heating is on or the log burner is alight. He gets hot and far prefers to lie on the tiled floors in the cooler rooms.

I think the "miserable" look is sometimes misinterpreted  :-) - my daughter used to say our GR looked as though he was sad but I think they just have a "thoughtful" look rather like Eeyore :-) and are just chilling out and taking it all in without making a song and dance about it :-)
