My dog is now about six months old and was rescued by a shelter at about three months old. For the time I have had her, she has a bad habit of crying almost all the time, except when she is sleeping. The crying gets worst when someone leaves the room, even if there are other people still present. If she hears a noise she will cry as well. I have tried to discipline her, or ignore her when she cries, and reward her when she doesn't. But, the crying has not improved and may be getting worse. In addition, it is very difficult for her not to scratch at the door and tear at the carpet. Any suggestions?

your dog is very obviously traumatised and insecure, not your fault, but might take a long time before it believes it has a home for good with you too, :(

I would try this pup on calmers .She is as Dizzy said obviously traumatised. No one knows what she may have been through .I think she needs some help untill she adjusts .
If you are against gettin a vet prescription then Valeria and st Johns wort is good for settling an upset dog as is bach rescue remedy.
There are all sorts of herbal remedies and although I believe in alternative medicine,I feel judgeing by what you say a kick start such as valium is good for a month or two then wean on to herbal remedies.
Please do bot think I am telling you to do this I am saying if I had a traumatised little pup This is the direction I would be taking
Best wishes Mari

It might be worth considering the new DAP diffuser (Dog Appeasing Pheramone?). Have spoken to someone to day who has used it and it has worked wonders for their dog. I think you can only get it from a vet but not sure on that one.

You can buy DAP online from one of the chemists, just don't know how to do the link but think it has been on here before if you do a search.

I did a search on Google and came up with :
DAPHTH

Thank you to everyone for your help. I might consider the herbal and meds that are available. So far she still hasn't yet improved. This is a great place to get help. Thanks!

Sugar,
Maybe you should give her more attention. If she was badly treated noises may make her very insucure. Give her as much attention as you can and don't leave her alone a lot of the time!
