at a champ show, when the CC is given, is the dog that got 2nd to that dog in its class always called into the ring? does this only happen in an open class or can any of the 2nd placings be called.

The judge can call in the dog that was placed second to the CC winner in the breed class -not any other seconds as all the others were beaten by dogs OTHER than the CC winner. As the CC can be awarded to any class winner, it depends on the class the CC winner was entered in -could even be from puppy or Good Citizen, for instance. There is nothing to say the judge has to call in a second placed dog, it's usually done if he or she thinks none of the other class winners were as good -or that the class the CC winner came from was better than the other classes.

Basically as Goldmali has said....it is not an automatic right, it is upto the judge IF they wish to call in the 2nd placing to the CC winner. I have seen exhibitors shooting into the ring & the judge hasnt called for them..bad manners in my opinion!!!

Equally it's a bit rude to completely bugger off and keep everyone waiting whilst some poor sod goes to look for you - we once had to wait nearly 10 minutes after the 2nd in Open had flounced off in huff: and that was only for the challenge as we didn't have CC's at that time.  The trick is to hover nearby without looking too presumptuous :)

Used to be that the judge could call into the ring any dog they wanted, now it must be a class winners (no seconds if first is withheld) then once the winner of the challenge is selected the judge can (if they wish) ask to see the dog only beaten by the winner of the challenge (in other words the dog laying second in that class) However if they like what they already have they do not have to call the second into the ring.

I have my dog ready to be called with just the politest little wait before entering the ring.

Having been 2nd to the CC winner at the last 3 shows, everyone knows where I am :-)
