Topic Dog Boards / General / Cargo/Safety net for behind front seats of hatchback
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.04.12 09:17 UTC
Our disco is off the road at the moment, and we have bought a little Polo Hatchback run around which will just take the 5 dogs with the back seats down.

I want to put a net across the back and top of the front seats to keep them from getting in the front seats and of course for a little safety.

Seen various makes on amazon, but none have pictures good enough to show detail of the attachment points,.

has anyone a recommendation.  Fortunately there are grab handles both in front and back, so with hooks or extra bungees I should be able to attach to roof, and bottom of front seats.

Are you looking for a fabric net or a wire mesh/metal bars type Barbara? Lots of car accessory shops will have the metal type but I don't know about a fabric one.

The stretchy nets, not solid ones that just never work properly unless permanently fixed.

The girls are pretty good, but if you stop for a pee you find them in the front seats, and I once had one of them with her lead caught around the gear lever and handbrake, not safe.

Also I want OH to be able to get his hand through/around to hold the leads while I open the back.

Know what you mean but can't help with any info, sorry.

Well I have ordered a net (one of several they had) and also some ratchet cargo straps from Amazon, and see if the netting is what will do the job.

If you look under the boot cover thing, you will find 2 metal hooks.  I had my OH make up metal clipped leashes so I could attach the dogs on while driving and also, they couldn't jump straight out the boot when it was opened.
Then you can just use a dog guard thing from Halfords!  :)

I often do that using a benching chain, but it only works with one or two dogs, not when all five are in together as the leads get tangled around legs and there is the risk of one being hurt as another jumps out of the boot with it's lead around it's fellow.  I have to sternly tell them to get back and wait while I untangle the maypole (luckily I have leads all same make but different colours.

With back seats down I find it safest to get dogs out from one of the rear passenger doors by opening just a crack, getting hold of collar and clipping on lead on each before letting them all come out in orderly fashion.

Barbara check eBay for something like those made by Barjo too.  If your is an older model you might be in luck.  I once bought a dog guard and dog gate for less than £8 the pair for our old Rav4, we also bought a gate for an old Golf for £15.

Here's one option from eBay and I know this fits as we used to have one the same :)

A Polo ought to be pretty easy to shop for...
