Each season is unique, but most will ovulate in a similar pattern.

Best way to find out is to get your vet to test her

Easier said than done. when I tried to get the tests done when my bitch eas in season, and things with her intended were not progressing well, I found none of ny local vets offere4d the premate testing service. It seems they don't get enough clients needeing it to justify buying a pack of 10 tests which is the minimum the manufacturers will let them have.

I did find two practices that have several branches and a hospital that could offer the tests at the Hospital, but this was not local!

Next time I think I will have them done, but it will be very inconvienient to get to the Hospital.

I must just be one of those very lucky types then. I just wish I was as lucky when picking the lottery numbers ! To date and I know this is not a lot but my first bitch had 2 litters and each time my vet was spot on with the date and now 2 years later I have mated her daughter and once again my vet was spot on with the date for the dog. Just as well as I do have to travel rather a long way to the chosen stud dog and on Christmas Eve, so I was so relieved when my bitch was only too happy to be mated. Funny how they got the Christmas Pressie and all I got was the driving. Oh the joys of breeding !

We've had visiting bitches coming on the day the vet's blood test suggested, and they were all hopelessly wrong - usually 48 hours too soon, but one wasn't ready for another 5 days. She has gone on to produce a beautiful litter of 10 pups.

So I don't hold too much store by the results of these tests.

Definitely different, probably depending on the individual bitch. I had one bitch who had two litters, mated the first time on day 11 - 13 and the second time on day 23 !
