Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 42days & no signs of pregnancy except jelly like discharge
- By hatemzalloum [jo] Date 12.04.12 09:42 UTC
today marks the 42nd day since Babe's first mating took place. no obvious external signs as of today except for a jelly like white odorless discharge on day 38 only! Does this discharge indicate pregnancy? mind you I am treating her as pregnant, with even the whelping box ready!
Would appreciate any feedback?  x

Have you thought of taking her for a scan?

scans r not reliable. or may i say the vets that read the scans have never been accurate! so i don't want to do it this time. mind u i am taking all measures that she is in whelp :)

It's my understanding that scans are good at confirming pregnancy but not great at how many numbers, at least you would know for definite then and its not invasive so won't hurt her.

I would take her for a scan, every pregnancy is different. I believe that this discharge is normal for pregnant bitches, mine did have a v. small discharge around the same time, and she is due next week

The reliability of the scan is dependent on the ability of the scanner. Some scanners will only confirm pregnancy, others will give a good estimate of numbers. Your choice but I'd always go for a scan - I can't bare not to know :)

thank you all for the input :) i am just trying to know if the discharge is a sure signe of pregnancy as the book of the bitch clearly indicates? whats your experience? thanks again :)

GO FOR SCAN

My bitch didn't have any when she was in whelp. But I know it's common.  Isn't it also symptom of pyometra too though?

I would always scan as its not about exact numbers but about knowing yes or no.  Also if its a very large litter you'll get an idea and can alter food accordingly.   Your choice if you don't want to but I think its the only way you'll know for certain with more than a weeks notice...

most of my bitches have never had any sort of discharge, even though clearly pregnant, so BOTB can't get it right for every single pregnancy

>i am just trying to know if the discharge is a sure signe of pregnancy

clearly not!

I had a bitch that had a clear discharge (quite a lot as it would be left on your shoes when she sat on your feet! and yes she was vet checked) while having a very convincing phantom, had she of been mated I would have thought she was in whelp, so I do not think that it is a clear sign of pregnancy. Why not get one of the mobile scanners in to scan your bitch as they are obviously very experienced. I haven't used one myself as my vet was very good at scanning but lots of chamdoggers have so sure they could give you a number to ring of someone near to you.

This could be a sign of pregnancy or it could be a sign of infection so get her scanned then if not pregnant you can start to look for the cause and medicate.
