If they get on, cant see a problem.

None of the bullies I know are ill natured dogs but they are all mental and they play very roughly. If the bichon was first and calling all the shots and more importantly the bully took a telling I wouldn't imagine there would be any problems but all the bullies I know are clumsy and go through things rather than round them. Bullies are fab dogs though.

Bullys aren't known for their dainty ways ;) They are very heavy for their size and very boisterous, the Bichon would spend it's life trying to avoid injury,
I wouldn't keep a Bichon with one and expect the Bully to 'take a telling' either, they are headstrong and likely to not appreciate being bossed by a smaller dog, there might be one or two who would be accepting of it, but not many once they are adult - they are terriers through and through.
thanks guys ,ive spoke with hubby and hes happy to leave off having a bully for afew years :) x

You could always consider having a Minature bull Terrier which is somewhat smaller, or something like a Boston Terrier.

A miniature bull terrier is 14 inches as looked into these to go with my SBT

chine.e crested dogs are quite popular on the continent with a few bull terrier enthusiasts

I know you have it sorted now but just had to say my Mam has a bully boy and he lives very happily with a smooth coat chihuahua , he lets the chihuahua lie on his back to sleep , he knows how to play gentle and is truly lovely. I had a bully bitch years ago and she was mental very full on and could be aggressive to smaller dogs , I loved her so much though . I have found the dogs to be much more laid back than a bitch after knowing quite a few . Must say I have always admired the schnauzer :)

i think it totally depends on both dogs in the relationship. My boy is within a couple of weeks in age with my sisters whippet. She has grown up with the bullies (mastiffs, not terriers) and so play fights like they do, ramming and shoving until she realises this doesn't work. She winds Tio up to play rough with her and has had a few (minor) injuries as a result. Her ear got nicked today and she came and got it looked at then was at him again till he collapsed in a heap :S she has no sense of self preservation!
;) ;) pups not on the grownd yet ....any day tho :) x
