Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Care after mating

Later this year I am hoping to do an AI mating with some imported semen. As this is costing me an arm and a leg not to mention the stress and worry I want to do my best to ensure that she gets pregnant and has puppies.
Normally after mating i treat my girls pretty much as normal. They have their normal walks and play etc. I do stop agility training. Just wondering if I should perhaps cut down on exercise when my bitch is mated this time. She is a very active girl and gets very excited when playing ball etc and when doing agility. Should I try to keep her calmer?

What about going out? would it be safer to keep her at home so she doesn't risk picking up infections or viruses? I don't want to wrap her in cotton wool but at the same time I don't want to risk anything going wrong. If this doesn't work it is unlikely that I will be able to afford to do it again.
Has anyone done an AI mating that could give me any advice? thanks very much.

Up to 3 weeks after mating the fertilised eggs are growing and dividing entirely protected from teh outside world.

The crucial time for mestablishing a viable pregnancy is implantaion and the formation of the placenta. This is the trickiest point 3 - 5 1/2 weeks gestation for things to go wrong, especially chemical or infection, and not all the fertilised ovum implant and go on to become fetuses with a viable placenta.

I don't think much can happen in the first three weeks, I don't think there can be much more stress than flying a bitch (have done this twice with different bitches) a week after mating and still getting puppies.
