I am hoping to import some semen from the US. I have hopefully now jumped through the administrative hoops. My next problem is how to pay the stud fee. Can I do a bank transfer from the UK to the US? does it matter if I send it in pounds? will it convert to dollars? I though about paypal but imagine there would be a lot of commission to pay. The stud owner is not sure as she hasn't sent semen abroad before. I do remember having problems sending money to the US in the past and in the end I got some dollars from a bureau de change and put the cash in a card. Risky but it was a small amount of money. However as the stud fees and expenses are nearly £1000 i need a secure way of doing it
Thanks very much

there has been a recent thread about this so if you have a look you will get some more ideas... there are various ways of doing this.

I have paid directly from my bank to the person abroad's bank - you need their bank details to do this.  You can't send a cheque you have to do it by transfer, in dollars.  I had to ring my bank and they did it over the phone.  This was incredibly easy and the best way imo - you need a reference to give them so its flagged up on their account, but I bought a dog so just used his name.

You can also use a cash transfer - like Western Union, I did this when someone didn't want to let me have their bank details.  You ring up or do it online (didn't work for me I had to ring) and transfer your cash (bank card) to their name and they can pick up the cash - you give them a number to quote.

The easiest way is to do a direct bank transfer. If you have online or telephone banking you can do it very quickly, otherwise just go into the bank. You just need their bank details. The money should be there within hoiurs, but the bank will charge a fee for doing it.

I found with my bank because it was into dollars I had to ring up a special branch, but things move on you can probably just do it online these days.... it was still easy though but you do need all their bank details.

I have found Paypal's chargees work out far less than the Banks.

I think it cost me £40 to send about $1,000 - it was easy, went from my account into their account straight away :-)

Paypal definitely cheaper.

I just sent a stud fee via the post office online, no charges at all and reasonable exchange rates as I sent it in Euros, very easy process :)
