Having to take Spud down to the emergency vet at 11 this morning :-(
Poor lad,s had 5 fits this weekend, last one was at 9am only an hour after his Epiphen, for some reason it just seems to have stopped working.
His fits are still very short, and he's fine when he comes out of them, running about playing. But they seem to be coming closer together.
He was doing so well too, he'd been fit free for 5 weeks.
On the plus side the emergency vet has all his notes since they bought over my old practise, and they're one of the best equipped hospitals in Scotland.
Wish my boy luck.

Oh dear. :-( I hope it all goes well for you both.

Wishing you and Spud the very best of luck

So sorry to hear this.  I really hope that the vet can sort Spud.  Especially as they are short lived episodes.

I'll be thinking of you both.  X

Thinking of you and Spud

Very sorry to hear this, must be extremely worrying for you. We lost our beloved Tag on March 5th, after his 71st fit in 18 months. He was just turned 5 years old. An unbelievably cruel disease, lots of lovely young dogs being lost to it in Obedience at the moment. Hugs to you and  Spud, I'm keeping everything crossed for you both. M xxxx

Got to the vet without incident, he's now been given Gentrix along with his epiphen and hopefully that'll do the trick. Vet said it is still early days for him, just such a shame it's not under control yet. He's also now got a rectal diazapam in case he has a longer fit.
He just had a fit at 5.45 and this time I was able to see it from start to finish, only 10-15 in duration, he takes longer to come to though, about 10 min, he's aware, but a bit zonked.
One thing in favour of this new vets, it's open at the weekend, so no emergency fee, which is pretty unusual up here.

Feel like it's Groundhog Day, here we go again.

wishing you and spud the best of luck celli.
- By penfold [gb] Date 02.04.12 07:30 UTC
How was he overnight Celli?
- By Celli [gb] Date 02.04.12 09:18 UTC
He's had 3 fits already, one at 3am, 6am,8am, all seems quiet now. He gets his meds at 8 so it seems to get worse as it's coming up to med time.
I have another appointment to see his own vet Angus as I want to run a couple of options past him that I got from Guardian Angels web site to try and break this cluster.
If he wasn't so well, bright and active between fits, and the fit's so short, I'd seriously be thinking about having him pts, I'm so paranoid about him suffering, mostly these thoughts come in the dead of night while I'm lying awake waiting on the next fit.
- By penfold [gb] Date 02.04.12 09:21 UTC
I know exactly what you are going through, I'm just hoping and praying that you manage to get this cluster broken and get the meds effective again.

Big hugs for you both from here. xx
- By Celli [gb] Date 02.04.12 09:37 UTC
Thanks x

Isn't it funny how knowing someone else has been through the same thing is such a comfort, us humans are strange.
- By JeanSW Date 02.04.12 11:55 UTC
Don't give up yet.  :-)

We are all rooting for Spud.  As long as he is a happy chappie, keep your chin up.

((((hugs))))
- By Celli [gb] Date 02.04.12 17:18 UTC
Thanks jean x

Hell am I glad i went to see Angus today. It seems the vet I saw yesterday hadn't even given Spud enough for a maintenance dose
one tablet was never going to help one jot.
He now has a loading dose of 14 tablets a day, 5 today, if he's ok then 10 tomorrow, then up to 14 for 5 days. This was one of the idea's I was going to run past him so I'm well pleased he already knew about it. He said he's done this with a few dogs and it's worked really well for them. He also mentioned it would have been unusual for Spud to be stable on just one drug, so that's made me feel a whole lot better.
Today he's been worse still a fit every 2 hrs, so it's obviously important to get them under control.
So glad I'll be flitting with Angus to his own practise, the other place may have all the latest gadgets under the sun but they ain't got the vets that's for sure.
- By JeanSW Date 02.04.12 21:44 UTC
:-)  :-)  :-)

Give Spud a big kiss from me.  Angus too!  :-)

- By MsTemeraire Date 02.04.12 22:13 UTC
Fingers, toes, dewclaws and tails crossed here for Spud and you, Celli :)
- By penfold [gb] Date 03.04.12 07:27 UTC
well, thats good news in a way I supposevin that it was the wrong dosage of drugs in the first place.  Heres hoping that Angus has it sussed!
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 03.04.12 08:10 UTC
Hope spud has had a better night a is going longer between fits xx
- By Celli [gb] Date 03.04.12 10:14 UTC
It's been going from bad to worse here.
Spud started to have a fit every 15-20 mins last night, so gave him the rectal diazapam and got him down to the emergency vet. He's still there, they've tried to take him off the sedation but he started fitting again, they will try again later.
I've to phone at 4, but if he's still fitting I'll be calling time on my loviest boy,I'll have given him a chance but I'm not going to let this drag on and him suffer because I love him.
It was truly horrible last night, he was chomping at his tongue when he was fitting, the fits were still short but he wasn't really recovering between, his breathing rate was still high and so was his temp.
Sadly if he does go today he will have to go at the vets, which I hate, although I'll see if he can be pts in the car if it won't cause him any suffering, at least that way he might think we're going home.
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 03.04.12 10:16 UTC
I'm so sorry, I do hope things settle down for you. Keeping everything crossed and sending positive vibes.
- By penfold [gb] Date 03.04.12 10:17 UTC
(((xxxx)))) I'm in tears typing this.

Truly truly hope it doesn't come to that.  Keep strong & brave for your boy.

Sending lots of prayers and thoughts Spuds way.

Celli, so sorry to hear Spud has taken a turn for the worse, hope your vet can get him stable again--big hugs from all of us, furred and feathered
- By Celli [gb] Date 03.04.12 17:48 UTC
He's gone.

Can't believe it, that's why I'm able to do this post. I just can't get my head round the fact that my marvellous, most beautiful boy has gone. Even the vet said he was one of the nicest Staffies she'd treated.
ed's digging a grave for him, in the border I'd been making, Spuddy was helping me do it on Saturday, we sat on the steps there and had a bit of a lean and a cuddle together, Spud's big thing was being kissed and cuddled.
I'm going to put Ben and Louie's ashes in with him, they were both his best buddies.

I was never able to post a photo of him but he was a big strapping boy, red, with a white chest and white toes just like his mum, I brought him home in the same bed he was born in. At least he knew we were there when he went although he was sedated, he wasn't completely under, he had a good sniff at us and I kissed and cuddled him while he went to the Bridge.

Run fast and free with your mum, Louie , Ben and Monty, I loved you every second of every day of your life.
My boy, my love, my friend...Spud.
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 03.04.12 17:55 UTC
Oh, my gosh, Celli, I am so sorry--everything has happened so fast for you. You've done what's best for your special boy and he's free of any fear or pain now becuase you found the strength to let him go. It's lovely that you've brought him home and will keep him in the company of his best friends. In the coming days please know we are sending you hugs and thinking about how much our friends mean to us, never more so when they are gone.

Run free Spud, a grand life well celebrated by your family xxx

- By Celli [gb] Date 03.04.12 20:17 UTC
So sorry for you. It was a month ago yesterday that I had to let Tag go due to the same thing and I am still dazed by all it all. God knows how you feel as it has all happened so quickly.

It must have been doubly hard for you Marisa, Tag was still young, Spud was 10, he was a very fit and healthy 10, but it always seems so unjust when they go at a young age, we lost Spud's Mum at 6 and that was just the worst thing ever.
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 03.04.12 20:20 UTC
So sorry for all involved, we were all rooting for you and Spud. He is free from pain and running around with others who have gone before. I hope in time you can look back at all the happy memories you shared. Hugs.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 03.04.12 21:21 UTC

Such a sad day for you all Celli - sending love and best wishes xxx
- By Harley Date 03.04.12 22:04 UTC
I am so sorry that you had to say goodbye to Spud. Wishing you peace and courage at this difficult time.
- By marisa [gb] Date 03.04.12 22:05 UTC
Thank you Jane. Even though Tag had been fitting for 18 months - and had 71 fits - I never thought we'd lose him to it as our vet at the time was so optimistic about his chances. But it was a real roller coaster, such can be the nature of the disease. I'm so sorry you lost Spud so quickly. I also unexpectedly lost my 10 year in the space of 2 days, this time last year, so know how it feels to lose one that age out of the blue. Wish things could have been different for our boys but we wouldn't have the missed the journey for anything would we? M xxx
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 03.04.12 22:14 UTC
