I am hoping that someone may come up with a hotel reccomendation for my husband and I in Rome.I am due to "celebrate" a half centrury next month and the poor man has been fretting over a "surprise" I admit to not being the easiest person to please so in the end said to him that we should agree what the "surprise" should be. We have settled on a long weekend break in Rome as we have never been and we would both like it.
The problem is the hotel, anyone been and liked where they stayed? I am not good with traffic noise(!) but want to be close to the attractions, probably boutique style and hopefully no children.

Thanks in advance.

The weekend after we are away in the caravan on a site with 16  friends and 21 dogs and out for a themed meal, non doggy friends can't believe that I would want to do this but for me it's great, good friends, dogs, countryside, food and alcohol, what more could you ask?

Years ago we stayed at the Hotel Canada in central Rome; it was comfortable then, and looks as though it's been updated since!

Rome is a fairly noisy city but it's part of it's charm - latin and loud!

There is an offer on Groupon at the moment and they are offering accommodation at The Black Hotel - which might be worth a Google if you can't see the link...

However this hotel doesn't get very good reviews with Tripadvisor which is a site I'd rate when looking for accommodation :)

I'd recommend you decide what you MUST see in Rome and plan your location accordingly.  It's all walkable if you're fit but you can easily find yourself half a city away without realising.  Try and avoid budget hotels too close to the station though they are all pretty loud and people are checking in at all times which is a nuisance

Thanks both of you for the replies. I am an avid Trip Advisor user and if there are too many negatives reviews then I tend to stay clear, I always leave fair reviews. One of the hotels I like is a ridiculous price for 3 nights so I think I will look again in the morning with a clearer head. I know what we both want to see so will plan accordingly; am looking forward to it now- thisis before I start worrying if the dogs will be alright!!

We had a wonderful stay at this b&b in Rome in 2010. Nothing was too much trouble for the lady owner and her staff, and to top it off she has a gorgeous dog called Tito

Only 3 rooms but we would definitely go back there if we visit Rome again!
Forgot to say also pretty central and lots of good places to eat close by!
