I wasn't there, but form what I ahve been told the Pug refusal to challenge had much to do with the way the vet check was carried out at Crufts, what the dog and handler were put through, and in support of owners in the future who will have to suffer the same.  i don't know anyone who is worried their pug won't pass a vet check as it is meant to be, but quite a few have expressed ocncern that they will not be able to keep up with the pug dong the rigorous movement required of the Crufts vet.

However, I do understand that  yesterday's vet 2 vet checks took about 4 minutes each, rather than the 20 minutes of the Cruft's ones.

Can understand that the breed feels the need to make a protest and stand behind those so damaged by events at Crufts but think that would have been best achieved by taking the test and then refusing to enter the group.

As you have said:
4 minutes at the UK Toy
up to 20 at Crufts
2 to 2.5 in the ring

needs addressing.

True that the KC have agreed to drop the veterinary tools that were used at Crufts but it is still very unfair as far as I am concerned.
