Hi guys my dogs seem to have contracted kennel cough. Took them to the vets today and she's give them anti biotics, is there anything else I can give, one inparticular cough is really bad tonight and wondered if there is anything I can give to help sooth her throat it seems to be getting deeper the more the day has gone one. I give her the first antibiotic This morning and just give her the night time one now, someone suggested giving a double dose tonight to make sure it gets straight in system? Or is there any herbal type things which may sooth?
When my rescue dog arrived with k cough my vet at the time suggested Benylin. My new woof loved it so much he simply slurped it from the measuring cup. However it was so long ago now I cannot remember the dosage although I'm sure I recall "treat as as a child under 12" (?)
Along the same lines I'm fairly sure I've read other people suggesting Tixylix (sp.). Honey is also sometimes mentioned...

My boy has been diagnosed with kennel cough today too.
I've been through this before with my last dog. Gave her a children's dose of benylin and she recovered v quickly.
Vet today gave an anti inflammatory for the throat and couldn't prescribe benylin, but said it'd do no harm.
Please don't vary the dosage stages of the antibiotic. It's likely this is a virus anyway, so ABs won't work. But regardless, ABs only work if given as prescribed.
Baby Benylin and I always give Manuka honey ( great for infections and healing) At £12 per pot for the strong stuff it's not cheap, but better than a vet visit. Hope they are feeling better soon, some look quite ruff with it :(
Would a vet be able to give KC vaccination while the dog has KC, or would it only be able to be given once the symptoms have gone?
