- By donna0808 [gb] Date 28.03.12 14:52 UTC
hi all my girl is 59 days from 1st mating and 58 from 2nd mating, ive taken her temperature just now and it 37.9 i know it must drop
less than that what should i be looking for and how often,
ive only taken temp with her mum but didnt do it for long and cant remember what it must drop too
thanks
- By snomaes [gb] Date 28.03.12 15:53 UTC
I look for a drop below 37, mine normally go to about 36.7. I have also found that in the last week it can go up and down but although it sometimes goes down to 37.0, it doesn't dip below that until they are about to whelp. I tend to find morning temps slightly lower than during the day as well. Good luck!

weve had a drop as low as 34.7 with 1 of our girls...i bet she keeps you waiting to her due date lol

Several CD folk have never found taking temperature to be reliable.

I'm one of them!  :-)

just a update on temp done again last night went down to 37.4, tried again this morning was 37.8
tried just now and was 37.7, is this the type of reading i should be looking for some say 36 others 37.
i didnt test this long on her mum so just curious, thanks all
- By white lilly [gb] Date 29.03.12 12:51 UTC
it will go lower than what your getting right now its just if you catch the drop it must be done 3 times aday at the same time each day ,morning reading is always lower then the other 2 readings because she would be resting most of the night,in the day she will move about abit more so the brings it up abit more .....its when you see a good drop "if she is around the 37.? most of the time thats normal for now for her "when you get a reading around 36.? then she should be ready to go into labour.
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 29.03.12 13:06 UTC
thankyou white lilly
you been very helpful
will wait until tonight now for next reading, i done first one about 8ish this morning before school, then, 11ish,
so will wait till about 7 then.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 29.03.12 13:10 UTC
yes that sounds fine just try and stick to those times to get a better reading and then you should catch the drop once you have check again2h later if its still down thats it she will be going in to labour very very soon from then. :)
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 29.03.12 13:49 UTC
I found that it was when the temp started to rise again we were all systems go :)
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 29.03.12 15:05 UTC
thanks claire, its a tricky one theres loads of views on it, some saying temps are a waste some rely on them.
shes been a bit restless today and her belly seems to be hard most of the day,
hubby just came home from work and says she has dropped,
so hopefully not much longer
- By white lilly [gb] Date 29.03.12 20:23 UTC
yes thats right but i didnt want to confuse donna lol once a drop labour will start ive found that the rise is when pups are about it be born ,well was the case for my girl :)
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 30.03.12 05:05 UTC
Oh yes i understand sorry, my bitch started to rise about 12 hours before labour started, they like to keep us on our toes don't they :-)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 30.03.12 10:46 UTC
wonder if her girl has had a drop yet?? she must be close to due date now? :)
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 30.03.12 13:53 UTC
Bet she's up to her elbows in puppies by now :)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 30.03.12 15:32 UTC
hope so for her sake ,the last few days of watching and waiting are soooo tiring but exciting :)
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 30.03.12 17:26 UTC
no im still here lol she had some clear thick discharge just now, still weeing loads, eating but what we have but not much of her own food.
getting better at staying in her box
her temp is still 37.7/8, she did have a bad ear last friday i took her to vets for drops, but the last couple of days, her ear is playing up again
she went to the toilet and rolled all in the dust so not sure if its labour starting or her ear again.
maybe this could be why her temp is not dropping.
will take her to vets in morning to check them again
do you think this could be why its not dropping if it is her ear or no
her ear drops finished today
thanks all

today is 63? hope all is ok??? did you get the low temp before it went back up (well if pups are born yet) :)
- By BenjiW [gb] Date 01.04.12 14:33 UTC
I've been wondering how Donna is getting on too!
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 01.04.12 16:22 UTC Edited 01.04.12 16:28 UTC
no still no drop taken jsut now was 37.6, shes been bit unsettled today, back and forth her box,
still having clear discharge around the vulva.
shes on day 62 from 2nd mating which is when ive counted from she was scanned at 4 weeks and was 4 weeks to the day.
she hasnt eaten much only if ive given her our food. anyone had a girl go in labour without a drop,
dont seem to really get much use out of the temp taking, will it drop quick or bit by bit as she has dropped since this morning she was 38.0
will try again later on thanks

lowest temp has been was 37.4 but that was other day
- By white lilly [gb] Date 01.04.12 17:44 UTC
right the temp u had at 38 is the start of things changing! :) ive just looked at my records and our girl had a high reading then it droped at the last temp that i took at the evening...its stayed low and i stopped taking it she had 1st pup 9h later ,but not all girl are this slow some come quicker some take longer its the waiting game ...all the best i said she'd keep you waiting till her due date lol x
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 01.04.12 18:05 UTC
thanks white lilly her temp is still 37.6
is it best to wait till bow 10ish now to take it again and see how we go from there, if its low i know time is here, if its still up will have to wait lol
did you see what i put about her ear will this effect her temp, she had it taken last week at vets and they said it was fine no high temp
thanks for your replies im really greatful
- By white lilly [gb] Date 01.04.12 18:20 UTC
if she has finished her treatment for ear it shouldnt afect her tempreture,
yes take it same time u normaly would,
x
- By BenjiW [gb] Date 01.04.12 19:36 UTC
I know I'm very amateur, but is there a point to temperature taking? I've only had two litters but just let nature take its course and labour when it started was very obvious so we knew when it was happening.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 01.04.12 19:40 UTC
its good for dogs that dont show much signs i have a girl that didnt dig or show any thing she just screemed as 1st pup was born the drop shown me it was happening but to be fair if temp not done right it could be missed ,i just like to see whats happening lol
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 02.04.12 06:54 UTC
we had a drop of 36.2 at 4.00am taken again at 7.45 and was 36.9, last night was 37.0, shes been shivering restless and had been ripping her paper in box
not a lot of digging no panting hopefully today will keep you posted
- By snomaes [gb] Date 02.04.12 07:28 UTC
That's the drop!! She was obviously on the way down last night and has been low all night, you will find it will now start to rise again. I reckon she'll have them tonight :)
- By donna0808 [gb] Date 02.04.12 08:57 UTC
its now gone back up to 37.0 still restless and shivering
- By snomaes [gb] Date 02.04.12 11:14 UTC
