Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Bones - again!!
- By sunny [gb] Date 17.01.03 19:51 UTC
Hi all,

Ian Billinghurst talks a lot about pork bones in his book, 'Give A dog a Bone.'
However, I'm not sure which ones are available to us here. One reply from another forum suggested pork ribs- are there any others?
Sonny is eating a lot of chicken wings and quaters plus the other stuff he's supposed to have but it would be nice to give him a variety.
I'm afraid I 'chickened' out of the carcasses! I just could cope with watching him eat them - the bones seem SO sharp. So now I grind them down - at least he's getting the whole thing.

Regards

ruth:)

I have heard from many, many people that you should NEVER give a dog rib or chicken bones (especially chicken) because they break them down into shards. They can not only choke on them, but they don't digest in their stomach and can cause a dangerous blockage. I would talk to your vet, but I've only heard very bad things about rib and chicken bones.

It's okay Crazydog,

It's coooked bones that are dangerous but I didn't start this thread to start a discussion on the pros and cons of bones - just wanted to know if any rawmeat/Barf feeder had used pork bones.......I didn't want to start a war:)!!

Ruth,
I don't want to start a war either :-) but will answer your question. Yes if I can get them at a good price I give pork ribs and lamb for variety, more often lamb but mine like pork too. Most of the time it's chicken wings or frames backs and turkey neck
Anne :-D

If you find a source of kangaroo let me know ;-)

Hi Ruth, mine have them as well, not very often. Pork trotters also go down a treat with them as well & they get them about every 8/10 days.

Talking about chilren's programmes - Sonny was avidly watching the Teletubbies this morning and trying to get behind the TV to get to them!:):)
He really is comical at times but I did think he had better taste!
