I can't believe that people are seriously considering breeding without any knowledge at all.  It is mind boggling that there are people obviously think it is easy.

I have had a phone call today, from someone wanting to use my Chihuahua Long Coat on her bitch.  I asked what she knew about breeding.  She says all I know is that the dog has to weigh 1lbs less than the bitch!    That was her sum total of knowledge.  I asked all the questions, even though I knew that she wasn't bringing her bitch to me.  No way.

She had never read a book on breeding, didn't even know what inertia means, and when I asked who was going to whelp the bitch - she didn't know what that means.  Her only question, when I pointed out that she had limited knowledege, was how much do you charge.

So, wait for it - I asked how heavy her bitch was.  Just over 2lbs.  (So, using her theory that the dog had to be a pound lighter in weight than the bitch, can you imagine what a terrible specimen the male would be?)

My boy is just over 4lbs so correct for standard, and I cannot imagine how novices cope when they find somebody to mate their 2lbs bitches for them.  Okay, I can't do a thing about it, but needed to let off steam.

i have a friend who makes me feel like this her exact words were "im gonna breed her to get some money" she has a large breed , who isnt hip scored and is illegally docked , she didnt even know what a hip score  is !! , she didnt know when in her cycle to take her to the stud also untested (but produces lovely chunky pups ...... ah thats ok then NOT ) , she took her to the stud to early so took her back 2 days later resulting in a slip mating , she then took her back the next day and no mating so hopefully she wont of been "caught" i personally think it was to early ( thank god) , the dog is kept confined alot of the time in a small space and is barely walked or interacted with ,they havnt got a clue how to look after a pregnant bitch and would just leave her to her own devices with nothing more than newspaper for a bed ..... how comfy hey ?

I can only imagine how infuriating that must be! I had a call last week from someone who a) wanted to know if I had any stud dogs and when I said no I didn't, she asked if I b) had any puppies available. Told her I didn't have any litters planned and hastily put down the phone!

Someone i know of has had a second litter out of there bitch, and they had a  litter out of her on her last season. Their reason for not keeping the dogs seperate this season was that it would be crule to keep them apart. Wonder if the poor girl will be having another litter next season.

It never ceases to amaze me either Jean.
Often calling me or others for a stud dog "quick", never bred a litter, no idea of how to feed the bitch, or the pups and have given NO thought whatever to the future of the puppies beyond the money they think they'll get.

What makes it worse for me personally is that they come on a forum and kind helpful people talk them through it every step of the way AFTER they have mated the bitch.........thus facilitating the moneymaking aims these people have had all along.
No wonder these people do it ...there seems to be no consequences. Rescue picks up the pieces when they cant sell them.
