My puppy Jake has been going outside to pee and poo for a couple of weeks now. At first he had the odd accident but I ignored that and praised him loads for going to the toilet outside. Now he's started to cry to go outside which is fine or we put him out at the recommended times ie after waking. He stays out for a while, sometimes he goes to the loo or just plays, then he crys to come back in if we haven't let him in already. However he's started to pee and poo on the floor when he comes in, even when we leave the back door open for him to come in and out. What can we do to stop him? He's 11 weeks old and I'm not expecting him to be perfect but today he must have peed on the kitchen floor about 6/7 times.

I once read that dogs are automatically programmed not to soil their den and are usually pretty good by six months. We didn't have much of a problem with Max in this department. We had the odd accident with pee but no other problems. Try to introduce a word or phrase when he is going to the loo outside so that in future you can get him to go on command. We use "on the grass", and taught this since 7 weeks and he pretty much understands where he is to go potty.

Jill , I think you need to start over again ..take him out (don't put him out) and use a word or phrase so he associates it with the action (hurry up ! or go potty or whaever) praise him when he performs ..act as though he is a new pup again (not that he is very old at 11 weeks).

The main thing is to get him to associate peeing and pooing with going outside ...lots of praise when he performs out there

Puppies don't start getting good control on their bladder till they are 3 months old. I agree if u want ur pup to learn u should take ur pup out and stay their with him till he is done his business and lots of praise, tell him to go pee or what ever word u want to use. This way he will learn faster that is a good thing to go out doors. Just putting him out is not giving him any idea that is good and where he is suppose to mess. Taking him to the same spot all the time works great and when he gets older he will always go there to mess.
Good luck
ttfn :)
