we are currently having central heating and new boiler installed. We live in a reasonable sized 3 bed mid terrace house (built 1960's ish).Loft insulated and cavity walls insulted. Partner prefers it on the cooler side where as i like it a bit warmer.
I get up at 7 for work but parnter and bubba dont get up til 8.30 ish. They are at home until 2pm ish when partner goes off to work and little 'un goes to nanny and grandads for a few hours. I arrive home with my girl at around 4 then partner is home at around ten.

What i want to know is how long would i have the heating on for so that we both feel the benefit?? Do i put it on for before i wake up so the house is heating before i'm out of bed. And how long would i leave it on for? Does it need to go on twice a day?
I'm sorry if this seems like a silly question but i've never lived in a house with central heating and i would benefit from others telling me how they do it and what works best :-)
Also, because myself and partner are in the house at different times of day i dont want the heating on for hours and hours but want us to both benefit from a cosy home.
Thanks in advance :-)

I have a condensing combi boiler.  I keep mine on the all day setting but thermostat in hall only at 15'C so ti doesn't come on that much.

Then if anyone feels chilly at any time we just push the thermo up to about 17, and ti warms up a bit.

I had been told it is better/cheaper to have the CH on most of the day at low levels than it having to warm the house from scratch.

If we go away for a few days then it is left on at 10'C, so only coming on at all if it is freezing outdoors.

My Bristol brick built 1930's ex LA 3 bed end of terrace costs me £26 a month on this regime to heat (British Gas).  On the other hand I can barely get my Electricity to stay at £50 a month.

Just got my bills and I am £50+ in debit on Electricity and £20+ in credit on Gas, as of course this was the hungriest heating quarter.
