As it states im thinking of applying to change my kennel name.i dont like it the word means something personal to me but i threw it together because the origianal one i wanted was refused....now can i mention the kennel name to explain or not??

My kennel name is romchelyln.i wanted romside...which is the show name for my horses!

Lyn is my mums oldest school freind.she lived opposite us for like ever.she stuck up for me when i was naughty and was was on the greatest women i did and will ever know!!Her name was Marilyn,she survived open heart surgery but she just never recovered properly and her son came to her gasps of air and we stood waiting for an ambulance and couldnt do a thing...i knew her all my life.

so why dont i like my kennel name,everytime i think of the reasons i have the name im proud.but then when people ask or its written down its pronounced wrong which really gets my goat lol

but for some reason all the years that ive had the name i still find it embarrassing to say!

I think it's a very nice kennel name and as it's so personal to you it would be a shame to change it because of what others think!

Believe me I know how frustrating it can be to have a name mispronounced as my christian name is Tamar and everyone gets that wrong.

Was always saying that I would change it when I was younger and at the receiving end of other peoples jibes but I was named after my grandma and now I've grown to like my name and don't care what others think.

So I would say  only change your kennel name if it's because you yourself dislike it rather than being swayed  by others  and anyway who cares about them.

Yes the name is personal to you, very personal and a lovely thought behind it. :-)

You see I'm at it already romchelyn I can pronounce, and I like it, but I'm not sure how to say romchelyln.

My very first affix was also my 3rd choice and I had thrown it together like the 4th, 5th and 6th, I only really wanted the 1st choice. I was gutted when I got my 3rd choice and just like you people kept on pronouncing it wrongly it bugged me to death, so much so that I did change it and was really happy with my choice as I had had a long time to re-think and do my choice again properly, when you already have an affix the panic for a name is over so you can just keep re-trying one name at a time. Luckily I got the name I wanted.

If your embarrassed to say your name, it's not the right name IMO, you should be proud of your affix and enjoy saying it and seeing it. :-)

I had my affix for a few reason & the choice was for equal meanings...it was what my mother was going to apply for back in the early 70's but never did. We also used it for our pedigree Britsh White cattle & Dairy Shorthorns. It is a mixture of a much loved famous landmark from my childhood.....

try embarassing with a surname like mine!...not nice when I was a kid others said you know how surnames are from your trade, like butcher & baker.....not spelt the same but sounds the same when spoken...I learnt to live with it but I expect others have a snigger when they hear it!!!

There's nothing to stop you buying another Affix. We applied and got our first choice about 22 years ago, it was a German word, when it was printed in the critiques in the dog papers it was always spelt wrongly. If anyone other than husband or I prounounced it, it was wrong, about 4 years later we applied for and got our first choice again. We kept both Affixes up until last year when we didn't renew the original one. If you want another one, go for it.

Ahh Lexy :( if your name wasn't Phenis (yes that's right PHenis and you say it the same as... well, you know)  I'd love to know what it is?  And no I wouldn't snigger ;)

My cousin's married name is Phenis and the kids had a right time in school - children can be vile to each other at the best of times in school without that kind of ammunition :(  Letters get mis-addressed - they miss out the H all the time, people call on the phone for Mr or Mrs P****  !!!  etc. etc.  

Dill....now  when I saw that I firstly read it as fenis not the other way...opps...my surname is Hoare...well said as ...you can guess...so along the same lines....best I dont marry into your cousins family then & not use a double barrelled surname either...lol

Ahh Lexy I'm confusing you, you do pronounce it with an F at the start but it rhymes with...      so is usually mis-heard unless you're familiar with it

I must confess, I hadn't thought of your surname, have seen it often enough but never thought about how it could be misconstrued :(   I thought maybe your name was Fluck - another name that is easily mis-pronounced and mis-spelled.

I did wonder when we were trying to decide on a kennel name whether something like Phenis would be allowed :-D  my guess was not!

I'd have had it changed to a phonetic spelling - Fennis or even Fennice is a lot better - though kids will try - and thank god they didn't have a boy they named Dennis!

I like Romchelyn, if people can't deal with the "ch" then spell it Romshelyn, or even Romshelin. No ambiguity there. Seems a shame to move away from the reasons you first wanted it just for lack of  pronunciation - unless you have personal reasons to do so, of course... Were you trying to say it has now become a little bit too personal to you, and you'd prefer something that didn't have those associations? Or did I get that upways down... :)

Spelt phonetically it would be Feeniss as in P...    LOL  

Kennel names are really personal, it's important to have one you can identify with and means something to you.  If you're unhappy with it, perhaps it can be modified or changed in a new name?

Lawd amighty, I'd have changed to to Phoenix right away, I thinks....!
As pretentious as it may sound, I'd definitely want to give my kids a better chance than the original!

Probably not so bad until it is spoken & we have had the incorrect spelling..ie with a W first but mostly Hall

romshelin is how it should be spoken...i have people saying rom-chel rom-CHAl-in  and i got to be honest ill smile and say no its ect ect  but its getting on my last nerve...why have something that means so much that no one aprreciates in the first place..
i get one of two things when people a

if i move away from the name ill be a bit gutted as im not keen on change in anything,i like things in their place and origianal things stay..ive got an ashtry (NEVER USED ILL ADD) that was bought for me for christmas i hated it big chinese designs all over it but so i put it in the kitchen and put a plug drainer thing on top...now its been a tea spoon holder for a good 11 years!!! i find it hard to get rid of it cos its the oly thing that doesnt 'fit' in the new kitchen lol..
if i change the name its cos im sure!
i get people asking where'd you get that name from so explaining it either causes me to choke and remember the tragedys or people look at me like ...my god!! how corny..and that annoys me more!

It sounds to me as if the name is far too loaded with meaning to you and causes distress.   Maybe change would be a good thing in this case?   If you get stressed and upset having to explain it or listen to it mangled then it's not doing the job it should be doing?

Hard decision to make though for that very reason :(
