If you have aleady cleaned up, I am sure that the release of pressure is making the dog more comfortable anyway. Do you mean that it's burst? If so, it's a waiting game until you can get antibiotics.

It burst about a hour ago, he seems much more settled I have just bathed it until we go the vets in the morning :)

I think that keeping it clean is all you can do for the moment. Unless you have any metacam to reduce the tenderness a bit. It's amazing how much pain relief there is just from it bursting.

Poor boy accesses can be so painful. Sorry I have no other ideas but to echo what Jeansw has sais now that's its burst he will be so much more comfortable just sore. My mum had mastities after having me some 50 years ago and still re$mem
bers the utter relief when it burst

how did your boy get on at the vet?

He has a large swelling in the gland which she doesn't think is puss, so he had 2 injections (antibiotics and antiinflamotrys) and a course for home then back on Monday. Hopefully the swelling will have gone by then.
My boy had a horrible abcess come up on his bottom, the vet gave him antibiotics and emptied the glands, took quite a while for the swelling to go. I was concerned that this may become a recurrent problem although it is not common to our breed so I asked at Dorwest and they reccomended spraying his bottom with garlic juice. I have brought some but thankfully (touch wood) have not needed to use it, I am wondering if it would sting but I have had good advice from them. It might be worth giving them a call. Hope he is better soon.

Poor lad, I hope the tablets help him. Funny how some dogs get them once, and never again. And others get them repeatedly.
