Topic Dog Boards / General / Rural cottage in Boulogne - anyone know a good one?
- By floyd9t8 [gb] Date 12.03.12 20:20 UTC
Hi all,
I am looking for a nice rural cottage/farmhouse/similar in Boulogne for a holiday with my dog. Does anyone know of any that are nice and accept animals.
Thanks.

Boulogne area isn't the nicest part of France :) :) :) Why not go a bit farther south ? :)

Hi,
Thanks for the info, we were just looking for something that didn't involve masses of driving (for the dogs' sake) and also not too hot (ditto).
Is there anywhere within an hour or two of calais that is nice?
Thanks.

If you are going to all the trouble of getting to France I'd at least go to somewhere like Normandy. French roads are pretty good these days and usually have plenty of "aires" (stopping places). These are much better than in Britain and are at good intervals, often small with nice picnic areas well off the motorway usually with toilets (ideal for dogs) and bigger ones more like our service stations. Be prepared to pay the tolls tho' - but, IMO, tolls are worth it as the roads are good.

We used to use a company called Chez Nous for renting 'gites', but there are plenty of similar if you do a Google search :)

We used them as well and had some wonderful holidays in France. As Daisy said the motorways in France are nothing like those in the UK. There are rest stops every 30km or so and they are completely different to those we see over here. There are the large motorway service areas but these are far outnumbered by the small rest areas which have picnic areas and shaded areas, often have a small play area for children and are far less crowded as there are so many along the way.
