I think the pointer was robbed!! I'dve had it Group 1 ~ Is it me or was that a surprising cut???
- By LJS Date 09.03.12 20:05 UTC
How did Merlin do as presume he got BOB ?
- By Boody Date 09.03.12 20:07 UTC
I think the pointer was robbed!

Me too i loved it!
- By ChristineW Date 09.03.12 20:08 UTC
I would've had the Pointer as Group 1 too.  The IWS didn't handle too well and the other 2 group placings did nothing for me.
- By LJS Date 09.03.12 20:11 UTC
Why ? What was wrong with him ?
- By suejaw Date 09.03.12 20:49 UTC
Stunning happy dog the IWS, the bed on the sryand, just didn't want to move in the big ring. Loved he Gordon, Weim, Spanish and the Coxker... Lab was nice, needs yo eat less ;-)
- By HuskyGal Date 09.03.12 20:56 UTC

I liked the IWS, he was so happy, why does he remind me of a hippy though !lol.
- By Perry Date 09.03.12 21:04 UTC
One of the dogs in this group was very overweight so we were amazed to see it placed!
- By Perry Date 09.03.12 21:05 UTC
Did like the winner though :)
- By suejaw Date 09.03.12 21:05 UTC
Lol oh Liv its doing my head in. Certain letters on heir own won't be typed!
- By HuskyGal Date 09.03.12 21:12 UTC
I'm not Au fait with Labs.... I like to see working dogs in hard working condition, not sure that was what I was seeing?? Compare it to say the Visz (Muscle tone,condition).... and erm.... Hmmmmm!!
- By Lexy [gb] Date 09.03.12 21:34 UTC

- By LJS Date 09.03.12 22:12 UTC
Yes Liv great day and I have confirmed today that the IWS is my next pup but not because of today's result.
- By HuskyGal Date 09.03.12 22:16 UTC
IWS will go very nicely with the new sofa! ;-)
- By LJS Date 09.03.12 22:21 UTC
Sorry Liv update on shopping I happened to gain another hare and 6 months of dog rocks but the day was all about the dogs and so many cuddles but the day has confirmed three years of looking at my next breed for the next step into showing and working and think I have found it !
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.03.12 10:40 UTC
I agree I liked the ESS, not overdone.  I like the Water Spaniel, but felt his performance (that;s how soem of mine play) was not as polished as some of the others, and at group level that does count, as they are all good dogs.

I liked the labrador but would have put it on a diet to loose at least 5 pounds.
- By weimed [gb] Date 10.03.12 11:26 UTC
black cocker was my pick. and I am not keen on the breed! a very smart fit looking little dog.had lot about it.

I was a bit surprised at the condition of some of the other entries- some looked fat-others looked corrrect weight but looked rather lacking in muscle tone.

and whats the score with all the docked ones? were they all too old to be included in the no showing a docked dog ban?
- By chaumsong Date 10.03.12 11:48 UTC
I thought the IWS was stunning, I liked that he played around rather than being an automaton, the breed are known as clowns and he as clearly enjoying himself and still full of beans when a lot of the others looked worn out after a long day. The lab I thought was far too fat :-(  The pointer was gorgeous too :-)
- By vinya Date 10.03.12 12:31 UTC
I Too thought the lab was to heavy. my sister has the working type and its very fit looking. I wonderd about the Docked tails too?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.03.12 17:36 UTC

Yep.

>whats the score with all the docked ones? were they all too old to be included in the no showing a docked dog ban?

Yes. The Animal Welfare Acts, with the tail docking ban, came into force in Wales on 31 March 2007, England on 6 April 2007 and Scotland from 30 April 2007. Dogs docked before those dates aren't affected by the 'no-show' rule.
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 10.03.12 19:40 UTC
We thought the IWS was very showy and preferred the movement of last years FCR to this years winner. Also loved the Pointer.
- By klb [gb] Date 10.03.12 20:01 UTC
Pointer was the stand away dog in the group for me, ESS by very smart. IWS didn't perform in the group ring .. Nice dog but not the dog of the day IMHO
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 10.03.12 20:30 UTC
Agree--the pointer was great on the move and I'd have given him G1. I also really liked the weimaraner, thought it was a shame he didn't make the cut.
- By ChristineW Date 10.03.12 23:14 UTC
Totally agree and I agree the Wei should've been in the 4 placings too.

But then I liked the Tibetan mastiff, Hovawart and a couple of others in the working group and wouldn't chosen the OES!
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 11.03.12 07:47 UTC
I liked the Yankee and English cocker, and my hubby picked out the pointer. Wasn't keen on the IWS but I think that's just because they're not my sort of dog, I'm sure he is lovely. I also thought the Lab was too fat!

>I liked the labrador but would have put it on a diet to loose at least 5 pounds.

If all BoB winners were vet-checked we might at last see labradors of a healthy weight again! After all the breed standard says: Chest of good width and depth, with well sprung barrel ribs - this effect not to be produced by carrying excessive weight.

And the Breed Watch page on the KC website says for the labrador:

Points of concern for special attention by judges

    Overweight
Legs too short in proportion to depth of body and to length of back

Again from the standard: "if a dog possesses a feature, characteristic or colour described as undesirable or highly undesirable it is strongly recommended that it should not be rewarded in the show ring. "
- By PDAE [gb] Date 11.03.12 09:41 UTC
Yes the Spanish was old enough, but don't forget if ever a young Spanish gets in the group with a short tail it will be a natural bob :)  I love Paco and think he moved wonderfully!
- By spaniel mad [gb] Date 11.03.12 20:22 UTC
good luck to judith and merlin, xxxxxxxxxx
