hi. I posted on here not long ago about my friend getting a new colli pup, a male, she currently has a female staff but a week before getting new pup she rehomed her male staffy. Now she is putting all over facebook and sending me messages about her current staff (roxy) ...

She said Roxy is not taking to new pup all off a sudden (first week she was fine). Now past 5 days or so roxy has been not wanting to come in from the garden, has not drank (but apparantly is not dehydrated ???????), has not ate, being sick, shaking, panting, limping back legs, frothing at the mouth. My first answer was POISONING :( I have seen it before and symptoms are the exact same. I tried all night to convince her (last night) that she NEEDED to ring an emergency vet, but she would just not listen. She is pure convinced its becasue she has a new pup, although if this was the case roxy would only have symptoms of not wanting to come in, and off food. Surely not all of this, or could severe stress cause this?? And when i knew someone who's animal was poisened the animal had passed away before this long, so can poisoning last this long (5days) ???

She has now put a status up on facebook saying 'cant believe i have to re-home my pup because roxy wont stop shaking and being sick'. So she is adament this is becasue of pup. Is she right ???? Last night she said she would take her to vets today if still no change, and there is no change but still no vets, and she has just said she cant travel there or afford it so will have to wait. I have tried and tried and tried to get her to do somethin NOW as i am convinced it is something to worry about, but she just wont listen. She has even tried putting it down to her house being 'possesed' for God Sake and saying dog is picking up on it Grrrrrrrrrr

I could not get my head around the fact that if there is something wrong with her why she would want to be outside in garden all the time and not in the house, but then thought maybe its making her act strangely, and could it be possible if its something in the garden that could be addictive (sounds weird I know but could it be so). What are others views, do you think the same as me and think dog should have professional care QUICK or could it just be something as simple as a new pup ?????

dog went to the vets 3 days ago and vet gave her injections for the panting and shaking ??? what could this be??? that is why she does not want to listen to me she said if it is something like that the vet would have picked up on it. But I know this is not always the case.

somebody please please help as if it is this I need to no what to do and how to convince her, I dont want this dog to die :(

time for a phone call to RSPCA I would sugguest.  hopefully someone will come out and threaten some sense into her.  Can't see much else you can do if doesn't want to pay up for vets etc

But if she is posting on facebook surely some of those people know where she lives. Best friend or not the health and safety of the dog has to come first

Totally irrelevant.  If you suspect less than adequate veterinary attention for this dog, then she can be prosecuted under the new Animal Welfare Act.  That is current legislation, and you cannot be an accessory to neglect.  Wouldn't it be better to report this, rather than a dog die that you knew was ill?  I, personally, would rather report, and get it wrong, than not report, and the dog be suffering.

To be honest it could be any number of things,it would be wrong for any of us to make a guess which is why your friend really should take the dog to the vets.

Not even a vet can give a diagnosis over a forum.  The urgent welfare of the puppy is the issue that needs to be addressed and sounds like sadly the RSPCA is the only route.  As mentioned before as your friend has posted on facebook then an anonymous report could come from any source.

UPDATE . . . well she re-homed the new pup as she was adament he was the cause to her staff acting this way. Only then for the staff to have a fit :( so she took her to the vets. Diagnosis from the vet is kidney failure. She is now on a drip and future is unknown :( My friend told me yesterday it has been 3 weeks (I was under impression it was only 5days) that the dog has been like this, and she also said when she was a pup she had same thing and only just made it. Im just soooooo angry that someone can act like this and leave it so long so that the dogs chances are next to nothing :( and now she is saying she wishes she never got rid of pup now this dog may die and leave her dogless (pup is now with an agility trainer), and now saying she is already looking to buy another pup. So in space of a month she has re-homed one dog to make room for a pup, re-homed the pup, not took her other dog to vet and so maybe lost her, and now buying another GRRRRRR

that is sad for the dog to have suffered and now it could be too late.
If she is your best friend then you have to have a serious talk with her, friends shouldn't be afraid to tell home truths to each other. Think I would have taken dog to the vet myself if my friend wouldn't but we can all say what we would do & in reality its not always easy.
Hope the dog makes it but don't think I could be too friendly with her if she just goes and keeps replacing dogs because of her own wrong judgements. In theory she should be worried about the dog at the vets not researching for new one.

And people wonder why I am so picky about placing a pup.

The sad things is that it is far from an uncommon story -details change but generally. :(

some people shouldnt own animals !!!! if one of my pets was acting like this for even a day it would be at the vets if i had to walk 10 miles carrying her so bloody be it ! it makes me very angry to hear of animals being denyed urgent vetcare , i hope this poor girl makes it although after 3 weeks of not getting treatment i dont hold out much hope i could cry for this poor girl

So she couldn't afford to take the older dog to the vet, but she can afford to buy another pup?  Sorry to be so blunt, but that is bloody disgusting.  If she were my friend she'd be told exactly what I thought of her, no words minced and probably quite a few curses in there to drive the feeling home.

I would also still call the RSPCA - this is medical neglect, pure and simple, if nothing else a visit from them might shake her up enough to realise that this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable and utterly dispicable.

And she wouldn't be my friend any more, that's for damn sure.  I've disowned my brother for the neglect of his dog and she was in FAR better shape than this dog.
