Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Toilet Training

Barney a 3 months old MWH Dachshund has got to grips with doing a No.1 on call on paper in his cage by request. However he refuses doing a No. 2 there, preferring anywhere on the carpet, which is immediately cleaned.
Any suggestions out there??

I have a question rather than a suggestion first?

Why do you have paper down rather than toilet training him outside?

When we got him it was very cold and wet, so were advised to use paper until weather improved.

Hi Valerie

I would suggest you take him outside and teach him that that is the place to go even if you have to put a couple of paving slabs down if you don't have any solid ground outside and stand over him with an umbrella (some Dobermanns don't like the rain and I have been known over the years to stand outside with an umbrella and they join me under it and wee almost on my feet). This will pay dividends later as you want him to learn that outside is the place to go

This thread was set up to try to help with house training

Thanks for the thread Christine, I will take some of these suggestions on board.
