Hi
I desperately need some help. I have a 12 month old bitch who is in a kennel during the night. My next door neighbour advised me that 2 men came around complaining today as she's always barking, she is not the only dog in the kennel there are 2 others. Unfortunately this has been happening for a number of weeks and although my next door neighbour knew that she was barking she never advised me and unf. I can sleep through anything.
I will now be bringing her in during the night although but is there any way that she could be put back into the kennel during the night?
They do come in the house each day but are not to be trusted loose.
Please help.
Regards. Diane

Is she setting the other dogs off barking as well or do they ignore her? All I mean is does she have a reason for barking, is there a noise or is something disturbing her?Does it carry on all night or does she give in? Is she getting enough exercise to tire her out? If you put her in the kennel in the day does she bark constantly?

The others ignore her. As I've not heard her I'm not too sure but I would think as it has been going on for a number of weeks that she only does it occasionally. I wouldn't mind but a few weeks ago our next neighbours shed was broken into right next to their kennel and they didn't make a sound!!
They do have quite a bit of exercise but unf. they are a breed who can run all day and still want to do more.
I don't know whether as a puppy she was born in a kennel and raised there? Maybe someones got some ideas on this.
try an abiostop, they raelly do work and are very kind

what is abiostop

It is a devise attached to a collar uner the dogs chin. It is powered by batteries and emits a squirt of Citronella under the dogs nose in response to it barking. the dog finds this unpleasant and will avoid barking, unless the dog is very determined, or so wound up that such a thing would not be noticed.
Someone who had one of my pups, and kennels her dogs at night found she would demand to be let out at 5am, so she used it for a few weeks and cured the problem.
they are a bit pricey, but worth it if they cure the problem.

retail at about £ 90 +
I have one I got a few years ago - refill spray is about £ 11 and then the
battery is about £ 6

If you go to John Humpries website you can get one for about £75 - I use 1 with my stud dog when the girls are in season - it allows the dogs to howl to a certain degree then it sprays them once they hit a level that's too loud. I have found it very effective with my Schipperke especially as they are such a sensitive breed, it really doesn't take much to upset them and put them off. Aboistop I have found doesn't have a long lasting negative effect on them.
The only thing i would add is that although Aboistops etc can work, and often very well, if the dog is upset or frustrated by something, and that is the cause of the barking, then that can sometimes be re-directed - for insatnce the dog may start to shred bedding (just an example.)
My suggestion would be to try to discover exactly why the dog barks, first, and then decide whether the Aboistop is appropriate.
It amazes me that when we have fireworks going off all hours, people are worried about a dog barking occasionally.
Good luck! and do let the board know how you get on as it is always interesting.

hi di
my wispa{which my dad said she should have been call echo)beacuse of the barking, she started barking when she came out of kennels, after her first season beacuse she was my first bitch with two male in the house i thought it was wise to put her in there but i was wrong, but you lean by your mistakes, that when she strated to bark,so i got a aboistop which worked on her but the boys let her bark because they are to lazy to get the air in they lungs, when people come to the house, etc, but the only thing is if she got the collar on and the others bark it will go off,it so funny when this happens she looks to say it was not me that barked.you can get a moblie one too,
terri
ps i hope it not related to my new one,(joke)
I used an aboistop on a bitch many years ago - it so scared her that she jumped over the bottom half of the stable door - unfortunatly the top was closed at the time so make you are near her the first time you use it.
Another method is to have a radio going quietly in the background as this sometimes blocks out the other noises they hear that often set them off. The easiest way is to have the noisy ones indoors though
