Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dog training classes Essex

Hello, Could anyone recommend any dog training classes in Essex (I am near Wickford) that I could take my 6 year old Border terrier too, I think she needs some socialising as she seems nervous around other dogs and i think it would do her good. Where we live we don't see many dogs on our walks and when we do see any she seems to be nervous, and sometimes snaps if they show they want to play, its as if she hasn't forgotten how to act with other dogs. She used to love meeting other dogs and I do feel sorry for her that she seems to have lost that.
Any ideas of good classes that encourage a bit of socialising. The one nearest me which I think is called Billericay training ??? says only accepts dogs that get on well with other dogs and I think it would have me worried that she wouldn't!!

Try these Writtle Dog Training. I went to their classes for years when they were in Ongar.

I went for the first time this morning to Billericay dog training school and it was good.... It's £20 to enrol and then £4 every lesson after that. The lessons are for 30 mins and there are typically 5 dogs in each class. The trainers are very good but there's not much 1-1 time with them to ask any questions are you're shuffled out as soon as the class stops.

But good value I think!

Sansfrontier, try searching the directory of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers - if you can find someone who runs the Kennel Club Good Citizens courses you'll probably find them very willing to provide some 1:1 training.  I'd expect any trainer to offer question and answer sessions on top of the 'curriculum' too.

I'd love to recommend my trainers but they're based in N Somerset!!

Thanks dogs a babe. I've just emailed someone on their list that's near me to find out more. I did feel a little like a sheep being hearded out of the school!
