Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Is my bitch still pregnant?

Hi guys,

During palpation, my girl got stressed and didn't allow the vet to touch her. She has a love hate relationship wherein she licks his face but when he starts to touch her body, she is reminded of the many injections she had during vaccinations over the years and runs to me for comfort, crying. She didn't allow him to touch her so we weren't able to confirm anything at that point.

He said we can do an Ultrasound scan by about day 45 if she doesn't grow big, or we can do X-Ray day 53, beyond the period of possible reabsorbing fetuses. And that'll give us the final count.

My vet said we can do both but then confirmation through X-Ray would trump the UltraSound anyway so he suggests just do the X-Ray day 53.

Right now we're 7 weeks pregnant if she is and she hardly grew. Just a wider set of ribs but her tuck-up  is still there. Her ribs are less visible though. My vet visited twice already and tried again touching her abdomen today and said seems like nothing is in there. She isn't big at all, just a bit wide at the ribs.

Even her nipples look the same.

You think she is still pregnant? Do you guys have similar stories? We'll find out in a few days for her 53rd day X-Ray but till then, I'm anxious. She did go through morning sickness though.

Hi.  Very hard question, but read the LIttersize-thread. I have also heard of other girldogs who did not look pregnant but they where and delivered healthy puppies.

Is your girl reacting towards the vet. the same to other vets? if not you could try another vet. to examine her this time.

Many good luck wishes!!

As bitches can whelp at day 56 anyway I would have expected it to be easy to feel pups.  It's amazing how they can appear pregnant when it's actually a phantom.

Umm after going to a vet when we were told by the stud owner that his dog hadn't mated her and we were sure that we could feel pups and being told that we were imagining things by the vet, 7 hours later she had a large litter for the breed!  So don't always trust what a vet says!
